Andy Diggle Exits 'Action Comics' For 'Professional Reasons'

Hall442 said something about reverting to the pre-Crisis timeline ... well I remember the pre-Crisis DC Universe and it was pretty dire. Easily 90% of the Silver/Bronze Age stories are best forgotten.

I don't much mind repositioning the DC universe at something like the Silver or Bronze Age, but rather than pin it down to specifics, howzabout we just put the characters in a good place and start telling good stories. If you've seen the "Young Justice" cartoon you have some sense of where I'd start -- Dick might already be Nightwing or not, Roy may have already stepped out on his own, and so on.

One change I'd make from pre-Crisis, though, is keeping the JSA on the same earth as the JLA. I am a fan of Earth 2, but there's no denying that relegating the JSA to essentially an ongoing "Elseworlds" meant that we hardly saw them in the pre-Crisis days. So here's what I'd do with the JSA:

1) The JSA operated mostly covertly during WWII days, so as far as the public is concerned, Superman was the first hero (though experts in superheroology would tell you differently).

2) This is screwy, but ... suppose the JSA started its career in the modern age, got knocked back to 1941 (perhaps by Johnny Thunder's thunderbolt) shortly after forming, stayed for a decade or two, then came back to the present. That way we still manage to have Superman as the first hero at some level (that's kind of important IMHO), we get the JSA fighting Nazis, and we still have them young enough to be viable heroes in the modern age. And it even works with a sliding time scale.

We can all speculate as to why but him thanking the editor goes to show that he is one very respectful and also that it may have had to do with the editors bosses. Shame really since with all the hype this run was getting I may have picked up another DC title again (currently reading 0 DC books atm).

Too bad, I would have love to see his take on Action Comics.

I wish he''d say why, or elaborate on it more. My reaction would be different depending on if it was "DC editorial is crazy and doesn't know what they're doing ahhhh" or "I'm writing too many books right now and couldn't keep this on schedule."

I prefer to realize, this man had an Epiphany; The New 52 sucks b*lls. it finally hit him he would be working on a character that has no relation to what it used to represent. *shrugs* I hope more writers and artists do the same to DC, until they totally eradicate The New 52 and revert to the Pre-Crisis timeline, and characters. Literally, it did destroy the DC Universe. At this point, the cracks are showing too much to ignore. Stop throwing cheap spackle at the problem. Go back to the ground, when it worked. Period.
