Peter Dinklage Cast in Upcoming 'X-Men: Days of Future Past' Movie

Peter Dinklage, probably best known as Tyrion Lannister in the Game of Thrones series, was recently announced to be joining the cast of the upcoming 2014 X-Men: Days of Future Past movie, directed by Bryan Singer. Rumors suggest that Dinklage will play everyone's second favorite short, hairy Canadian Marvel character.

The movie is rumored to be based on Chris Claremont and John Byrne's "Days of Future Past" storyline from Uncanny X-Men #141 and 142, and is ostensibly a sequel to X-Men: First Class, with Bryan Singer returning to direct the rebooted X-Men series after his 2000 X-Men and 2003 X:2.

Dinklage's role in the film hasn't been announced as of yet, although fan speculation is hard at work casting him as Canada's favorite height-diminished Superhero that isn't Wolverine, Puck. With his newly starring role in Marvel's high-profile Uncanny X-Force comic, written by Sam Humphries and drawn by Ron Garney, it looks like we might be entering a new era of Puck-popularity.

Dinklage joins returning actors Hugh Jackman (X-Men), Ian McKellen (X:2), Patrick Stewart (Star Trek), and more for the sequel, currently slated for release on July 18, 2014

Will probably pass on this. Not a fan of Singer. Not a fan of the X-Men films. Would have been nice to see this actor as Puck as I am fan of Byrne's Alpha Flight comics but given that this film is likely to be X-men in name only that would be one of the few things interesting about it.

Sad that the film makers are probably going to crap all over Byrne's "Days of Future Past" much like they did his and Claremont's Dark Pheonix Saga. It really could have been a cool movie if they stuck to what's in the comics.

Before you jump on me note that Puck isn't in Days of Future Past so if this bit of casting is accurate then it is going to undoubtedly move away from the comics. Before the knee jerking begins ask yourself is it really necessary to alter the story as shown in the comics? Many will say "absolutely! There MUST be changes to translate what's in the comics into a film." Again I ask how do you know that's true. Sin City stayed very close to the comics- to the point the Rodriguez used plates made from the actual comics panels to stage the film. Why was that film a success despite not being altered?

I agree.... the high praise that First Class garners is actually just a knee-jerk reaction to an Xmen movie that wasn't totally crappy. Like, when you're expecting to get punched in the face and you close your eyes and brace yourself and then suddenly.... feel the tickle of a happy dog licking your face. That's Xmen First Class. A licking dog is much better than a punch in the face, but it still kind of stinks, is slimy, and eventually you'll want that to stop as well.

I'm looking forward to this movie, but I'm not sure about the Puck rumors. Sure it's possible, but Dinklage is a really good actor and I think he'd be able to play any number of villains. Bolivar Trask, Sugarman, hell, there's any number of characters he could play.
That being said, it would be pretty awesome to see him as a member of an alternate future Alpha Flight alongside Wolverine, and having Alpha Flight flight available to them could really help Fox flesh out the movie universe they're apparently planning to establish between X-Men and Fantastic Four.

You are too quick to be offended then. He is a good actor and would be well cast in that part. Perhaps you shouldn't see it as an insult for him to be cast in that role because doing so shows your bias in believing that it is somehow naturally inferior.

It's an insult to assume that because he is a little person he can only be cast as a little person. There was no other speculation as to what role he was cast in, that lends towards being ignorant.
He should be offended at these simple assumptions. I'm offended about how stupid people are.
I see it as an insult to his ability. The role of Puck IS inferior. He's a C class character, Drinklage is an A class actor.

Nicholas is on the money, though. I believe Dinklage isn't particularly enamoured with the idea of just playing roles that little people can do, and I think he's publicly been on record saying exactly that.

So perhaps he'll just be voicing a character, who knows? But I don't doubt he'll be excellent.
