Despite engaging in the occasional obnoxious emoji battle with friends on my phone, I was mostly ignorant of the artform's fuller potential... until today. Gizmodo scoured the #emojiart hashtag on Instagram and pointed out that the tiny digital symbols have a higher calling, principally being used to form a giant emoji version of Superman's "S" shield. Not only that, well-place emoji-filled text messages and online chats are being used every day to tell fun sequential art stories. Are emoji comics the next digital/web/motion comic revolution???
