First, I'm digging the Na'vi version of Captain Planet, nice motion capture in there.
Second, there's NO WAY Fox will let go off their rights to Captain Planet so an environmental movie is made. If anything they'll rewrite it and make the planeteers a group of oil rig diggers that save the planet. Oh wait, that was already made, it's Armageddon. Anyhow, moving on...
Tree-hugger propaganda. Well made though, I'll give them that. All of you who liked Captain Planet as a kid, you were getting brainwashed by Billionaire Ted and his America hating wife Hanoi Jane Fonda.

August 25 2012 at 8:43 PM Report abuse Permalink +1 rate up rate down ReplyI'm thinking at first "ok here comes Corny in 3, 2, 1..... erm wait this is actually pretty cool". Cartoon Network should sign these guys and gals to do the feature film be it direct to tv or not they seemed to nail all the right notes. My one question though...
No Monkey? Coulda swore there was a monkey.
To paraphrase Shang Tsung: "FINISH IT!!"
August 25 2012 at 11:44 AM Report abuse Permalink +4 rate up rate down ReplyGood silly fun and impressively produced, which I say despite having no nostalgic affection for the show (I remember it from my childhood, but never made it through a full episode, for I hated it).
Anyway, an honest question: what is the typical motivation for making an elaborate, involved, and by the looks of it somewhat costly fan-trailer like this one? (I say "typically" b/c obviously not everyone shares the same motivation, but, you know, generally speaking.) Is it meant to be a semi-serious "proposal" for a studio-produced film on the subject? Is it a sort of sample work, meant to be used for aspiring/struggling professionals in the film industry? Is it designed as "content" (ugh I hate that buzzword) for a specific website, meant to draw web traffic? Or is it really just done as a lark by friends?
Like I said, no one explanation will cover all fan trailers and in many cases it's a combination of the above reasons, but is there a general or common intention?
Usually its a viral/visual resume. Instead of "here is this short film I made in school that only my class and family seen" you can say "here is my youtube video viewed by 1 million people and liked by 97% of 'em.". Will show a potential client you have a built in fan base AND know how to produce content people wish to see.
August 25 2012 at 5:50 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyKinda what I thought, but thanks for the confirmation. Of course, I'd prefer if potential employers were more impressed by the filmmaker's technical skills & point of view, rather than an ability to produce "marketable content," but so it goes.
On an unrelated note (and not directed to you, kevsflanagan), does my innocuous question have a rating of -3 because I didn't like Captain Planet as a kid? Go figure.

A countdown of the must-read books of the year.
