Your gratuitous swipe at US public education is ignorant and misinformed; the vast majority of US public schools are quite competitive and graduate highly educated students. Our metrics are dragged down by a small number of terribly-performing schools in areas of extreme poverty, crime, and family breakdown.
Do some research, please.
School quality has been going down for decades.

In the rest of the world a 100 IQ is AVERAGE & 130 is GENIUS !!! Your education system is so bad anyone who scores what is NORMAL for the rest of the world is considered a GENIUS in America !!! Boy am I glad I'm Australian, where our national average is 126 (according to the australian federal census for 2010, so you can verify) !!!!!

August 06 2012 at 12:27 PM Report abuse Permalink +1 rate up rate downI guess that explains why Australia invents more stuff than any other nation and leads the world, while America is mainly known as a back-up sidekick country in case anything ever happens to the United Kingdom. And then something happens to Canada. Or did my poor American education make me mix those two? Oh well!
Lol, but seriously, 90 is not considered an average IQ in the US, where did you dream that up? 100 was set as the average when the tests came out, and even pessimistic estimates give America an average of 98...the same as Australia.
But hey, if the Australian government is telling you all that you're all borderline geniuses, by all means believe them. When can we expect to see the flood of inventions and medical and technological advances from Down Under? The second week of never?
"His fate in the new 52 is decidedly less nuanced."
But...he hasn't even shown up in the new 52?
Oh wait he appeared in that awful The Dark Knight comic. My bad!
August 03 2012 at 4:05 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyLook, i'm i huge fan of bane since i'm 4 years old, and the fact that you didn't mention how he fought his adiction away while in prision and reach peak human level (the same level as bats post no man's land and captain america) in six months really sucks. I really loved when bane was fighting druglords and trying to find his place on the world, secret six was meaby the best portray of him since his original story.
As a foot note, bane and the entire knightfall concept were created before the death of superman and had to wait, after all DC tought they could make more money killing superman.
My favorite Batman villain... they mentioned he's made from the Mold of Doc Savage, but they hardly mentioned that loony team he first brought with him to Gotham. Weren't they kind of meant to mirror Doc Savage's own team of specialists? I can't remember all their names but I think there was a guy called Zombie who threw knives and some dude named Trog who was just a big tough dude. Batman beat 'em pretty quick so I guess they're not that important.
Also, Bane knew Bruce Wayne was Batman just by looking at him through a pair of binoculars. How cool is that?!
He also employed a thief, who would use trained birds to steal stuff.
But more aside, you could even mirror Bane's henchmen to Batman's team. Zombie was Bane's confidant, servant and father/mother figure like Alfred. The bird guy could represent the different manifestations of Robin.
And Trog...was Ace, the bathound.
Bane is the human version of Doomsday (to Superman)
Bane is born in a prison environment and grows up to be the best to escape prison
Doomsday is born in ancient brutal Krypton killed by the harsh environment and inhabitants , cloned back to life , again and again till it became the strongest. Eventually made it to earth(metropolis)
The 3rd and 4th panel of this comic is almost identical to how Doomsday (instinctively) searched out for Superman in metropolis
I think you missed how all of the character development was thrown out the window as soon as he was needed for a crowd scene in Infinite Crisis... Just stupid.
August 02 2012 at 1:36 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyNot only that, but those crowd scenes always seemed to be in comics written and/or illustrated by people who weren't aware that Bane kicked his addiction to venom immediately after Knightfall and actually hated the drug and wanted to wipe it from the face of the earth.
So naturally he dug his old venom tubes out from 1996 to wear whenever he cropped up for crowd scenes.
Although kudos to Gail Simone in Secret Six for trying to explain those previous lapses as Bane carrying his old drug gear out of an addict's habit. It was pretty transparently handwaving continuity hiccups away, but at least she tried. But she also inexplicably brought back his wanting to take down Batman, whereas before Secret Six, Bane and Bruce had parted company on pretty good terms. I guess nobody's perfect.
Another funny article. :)
I have just one nit-pick, though: technically Bane broke Batman's back in the batcave (Batman #497) and then publicly humiliated him. Like in The Dark Knight Rises, Bane didn't actually fight Batman in public when he broke Batman's back, though in the comics, there weren't any henchmen around.
"Are you my mother?"
Oh, my god. That was the first book I ever read.
Son, I am proud.

A countdown of the must-read books of the year.
