Coinciding with Comic-Con International in San Diego, DC Entertainment hosted a cocktail reception and art exhibition in benefit of We Can Be Heroes, the company's initiative to combat hunger in the Horn of Africa. Installed at Michael J. Wolf Fine Arts Gallery in the Gaslamp District, the presentation included fantastic paintings, illustrations and other works representing the DC superheroes and villains, as well as journalistic photographs depicting some decidedly heroic moments from the real-life fight against the hunger crisis.

Also in attendance was musician Chris Daughtry, who performed an original composition whose net proceeds will go towards the We Can Be Heroes Initiative.

DC Entertainment President Diane Nelson addressed the crowd with a good speech about the We Can Be Heroes initiative and the nature of comic book heroism and real-life activism. She also made a point to thank the many DC staffers and freelancers in attendance from across the company's various publishing, television, film and video game operations for all their work since the New 52 was announced just in advance of last year's Comic-Con. Daughtry's song, an acoustic number called "Rescue Me," can be purchased in the iTunes store. Again, net proceeds go to the We Can Be Heroes campaign.

The Darkness & Light exhibition is presently on tour around the United States. Upon its conclusion, select pieces will be auctioned to benefit We Can Be Heroes. You can learn more about the tour and see the photo journalism component on the official site.
