Smallville Season 11 writer Bryan Q. Miller spilled the bat-beans over on his blog, explaining that "as both a fan and a writer, I am more than pleased to announce the arrival of a MAJOR DC universe player in the second episode of Smallville Season 11" before sharing the official solicitation for #5 of the print edition, which includes the following tease:
CA's noted "Smallvillains" Chris Sims and David Uzumeri are... likely apprehensive about whether or not they'll get this momentous meeting right. The hunt for his parents' killer puts a vigilante known only as "the BATMAN" on a collision course with The Man of Steel...
"Fans have been waiting for this for a VERY long time," Miller wrote, in something of an understatement; Bruce Wayne's appearance in the Smallville continuity had been teased since Adam Knight showed up in the third season of the show way back in 2003 acting very much like a future Dark Knight, even though producers have since claimed that any similarity to Bruce Wayne (You know, like his being a brooding orphan with amazing martial arts skills and hacking chops) was a complete coincidence. Presumably in the same way that any similarity between Captain Marvel and Marvelman is a complete coincidence...

Smallville Season 11 #5, the first part of "Detective" by Miller and artists Chriscross and Marc Deering, will be released in September. The story will debut first as a digital comic in August.
