For anyone who has read (or played the video game version of, or watched the movie adaptation of) Bryan Lee O'Malley's Scott Pilgrim, it's difficult towrap the tale without feeling good about love... and video games, and music, and cartoons. Inspired by this associated goodness, friends Simon Lai, Alex Ha, Charles Murakami, Ken Liu and Conrad Seto created an animated wedding gift celebrating Simon and Pearl Lai's nuptials using hacked portions of Ubisoft's Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World: The Game along with original animation. Simon and Pearl fortunately don't have to face an army of evil exes to be together in the video, although they do face zombies, ninjas and other menaces on their way to matrimony. Level up by watching the lovebirds' SP-themed adventure after the cut.
Somehow, after seeing this video, I can't work out whether the couple's real-life wedding sans 16-bit style magical realism and hyper violence was a relief or a mild disappointment for them. Either way, this video is very well done and a much more exciting gift than a toaster oven.
every time i see a "cool wedding" thing, like a "cool themed" wedding or a "cool" wedding invite, with zombies or star wars or firefly or scott pilgrim (now) all i think is that putting a cool thing on an uncool thing doesn't make the uncool thing any less uncool. weddings suck. trying to make 'em cool is like trying to make sardines cool by putting 'em on your ice cream. still gross.
Nice. They even changed the street sign in the background to move it from Toronto to San Francisco. They still collect loonies when they kill the bad guys though!
