Tokusatsu: A new trailer for Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger vs. Space Sheriff Gavan: The Movie (opening January 21 in Japan) unites the latest Sentai team with the original Metal Hero. [ANN]
How many times do I have to tell you people...you can't just stake the Akira movie in the heart, you also have to cut off the head, burn the pieces, and scatter the ashes.
How is it that Japanese live action film got stuck in the '90s? The quality is just crap (well, for this decade. I'm sure it would look decent in the early '90s.).
Gotta love Kenji Ohba stepping back into the role of Uchuu Keiji Gavan! Still I'm not sure why the return of the first Metal Hero is happening in what is basically a Super Sentai Anniversary thing but oh well. The Gavan suit looks friggin sweet!
It's because they exhausted the Sentai nostalgia with the first movie from this series (which had every single (all 200!) Sentai hero in it) so now they're moving on to metal heroes, in an apparent attempt to revitalize them.
I'm not sure it's going to work, but then again Ultraman is still around and it's terribly formulaic even by tokusatsu standards
Ultraman isn't as ridigly formulaic as many Western fans like to assume that it is though I would definitely recommend checking out the Ultraman Nexus and especially the Ultraman Zero stuff if you want to see an Ultra that shakes things up a bit.
