I know I might be politicizing this, but Marvel is a supporter of SOPA. Don't fall for this, send Marvel a message that their support will not stand. Boycott their products, and sign this petition: http://www.dearmarvel.com/?utm_source=Thwipster+Newsletter&utm_campaign=229e7257d7-010612&utm_medium=email&mc_cid=229e7257d7&mc_eid=a8680ff807
This is not spam, I'm just a concerned internet user and comic book fan.
But... I already bought all of the Marvel Comics I wanted for this week.

January 06 2012 at 5:23 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down Replythis is ingenious. first, the cost of acquiring new online customers through other marketing campaigns is probably not much less than that, depending on how many new customers you want to buy (deminishing returns, etc). second, floppies are all like, 4 bucks now, right? so whos going to buy just one comic at the store and leave that extra dollar just sitting there unused? no way, you going to buy one comic for free, and get another comic for 25% off. since the digital comic marvel just sold you essentially costs them zero additional dollars to produce and distribute, theyve just sold you 2 floppies for 7 bucks (assuming digital comics cost 3 dollars. i have no idea though, how much do they cost?). PLUS marvel has your contact information for thier database. AND they get to look good because theyre building their digital market AND shoving people into local comic shops.
they should do this all year long. also someone in the marvel marketing department is going to earn a raise.
A digital comic usually costs between $0.99 and $3.99, but I think you're off-base on the target demographic of this campaign. I think they're aiming for existing buyers who haven't tried going digital yet. These people were going to spend $5 on Marvel books anyway; this gets their foot in the door on digital.
January 06 2012 at 4:41 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyMaybe I'm just being weird and all, but I'd feel awkward using this at my shop. I don't know why, but I would.
January 06 2012 at 4:14 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyNo, I totally agree. It's like saying, "Hey, I'm supporting the downsizing of your part of the industry, but here's a bit of business." And even worse-- With a coupon. Nah, I wouldn't do it, personally, but I just have an issue with e-books and most digital spin-offs of print.
January 07 2012 at 12:01 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyY'know this is something they really need to more often. I'm sure a lot of "hard" comics sales have slipped since the digital comics have come out - be nice to walk into a shop and basically come out with maybe 1 or 2 freebie new comics.
Thanks Marvel!

A countdown of the must-read books of the year.
