LOOKS like they killed off "Channing Tatum" in this one? I like the rock as much as the next gal, but really???? This is what makes me sure to NOT go see a movie!

I grew up with tons of the toys and vehicles and playing with them with my brothers, because my older brother was a huge fan of the cartoon, but being born in 1989 I never really got to actually enjoy and connect with the show. Still, G.I. Joe as the first action figures I played with as a kid, and as I love watching old cartoons and now have watched much of the show, holds a special place in my heart. As such what was done wrong in the first movie like how they handled Cobra Commander bugged me. I especially just felt like the style of the movie as clear in the trailers felt wrong as it was to much just a military movie with over the top action, like the A-Team movie, and some of the crazy stuff like those cyber suit things just felt wrong in the movie's universe as they tried to appeal to the source material.
This trailer, however, feels more right. The Rock is a great addition and pretty good casting as Roadblock. He was great in Fast 5, and just feels right in this world of military action. The playing up of the ninjas is something that always just kinda oddly made sense in G.I. Joe and was needed. Having Cobra as a truly more Illuminati type organization behind the scenes and taking over the country feels awesome. Also, the style its shot in is somewhere between that A-Team action sensibility but with with some of the flair of the Wachowski's Speed Racer (a movie I actually kinda like and I loved the crazy amount of style, even if that was a bit to much) which feels really welcome and fitting for GI. Joe. Not to mention, that kinda electric grunge instrumental of Seven Nation Army in the background is really cool. My only real complaint is I'm not sold on Bruce Willis in this movie. He's just added in there at the end, so I can't be certain, but he feels like a big action star for the sake of having a big action star, and the scene he's in just feels like something from RED. I enjoyed RED enough but didn't love it as much as most people and I honestly hope he's a lot more toned down then that as it was more absurd action humor in that movie, less the great badass action humor like in Die Hard.
Anyways, I realize that's a lot I just wrote, but I'm a film student and I like to analyze, so sue me.
you can watch it on Netflix instant stream if you want.

December 14 2011 at 12:41 PM Report abuse Permalink +2 rate up rate downI'm not going to watch this, what a stupid suggestion
December 14 2011 at 10:56 AM Report abuse Permalink -2 rate up rate down ReplyThis DOES look about a million times better than the first one.
Not that that was a hard bar to reach.
But, and I sincerely believe this, having the Rock in it makes it better. Having the Rock in pretty much ANYTHING makes it better. I am actually dissapointed that he hasn't become one of the legit top action stars of this current film era.
Are you saying The Tooth Fairy could have turned out worse than it did?
*shudder*
I didn't want to enjoy any of that. . but that was pure stupid fun right there.

Eh, I guess he's got arthrieus now, and can't perform that Kung-Fu Grip.
Eeeheeehee! I am so excited! I think it's already shaping up to be better than the first one.
And I liked the first one.
Of course, I am also infamous for having what others consider 'poor' taste in movies. But, you know. Haters gonna hate.
