Link Ink: Aaron McGruder's 'Red Tails' Writing, Super Socks and Batman Beyond in 'Arkham City'

I haven't seen Red Tails, but since it's based upon the very same story line as the first Tuskegee Airmen filmed account, I feel it is old-school, if it only attempts to portray blacks as law abiding, noble,
martyrdom seeking types, who would excel as winged warriors and just win the opportunity to serve as back-up to white flying forces. Thus, check out my original realistic /fictional take on this heroic subject. momnpopjnrinc@aol.com

Sheesh, I would post this comment on Joystiq, your sister site, but if there is a link to the LA Times article, it's probably buried by now.

Warner has good strategies, but something (I suspect Hollywood corporate types) kibitz them. (Yes, I am commenting on the article and not on the one line of a game on an unnamed DC character, deal with it! ;P ).

As usual, quality shows and drives people to things, be it comics or games. The Matrix Online wasn't as bad as it was "niche" and a bit too early and under-marketed. Like other studios, they have that history of timing releases of games tied with movies and really, that may be good for those under 10 years of age, but not for everyone. Even some of those under 10 don't appreciate most of those games. As you can see, "Arkham Asylum" is basically, "a movie that you play" but it isn't anything like Final Fantasy's sit-and-watch cinematics.

Some video game devs lose sight of this easily. They may think they put a player in a role, but they need to reevaluate that view and ask folks with a "fresh pair of eyes". The main problem really, is there is not enough time to design such a game. The answer, really, is to separate a film's marketing from games. Games matched/RIVALED the money making of movies in recent years because it is even more "personal" when you play some of them. They should treat them as separate media/entertainment entities.

In other words, let's flip this question around, if they made a new game, even a successful sequel, should Hollywood make a movie that comes out at the same time as the game? (Not vice-versa, as is usual.) I would think, such a project, most entertainment people could agree, would be sub-par. This is totally separate from the, "Would a video game IP make a good movie" question. Again, it's about time, quality, and development.

I think the Tuskegee Airmen came up on "The Boondocks" in the first season episode "Wingmen," where Robert's flying comrade dies, and he has to give the eulogy.

Regarding RED TAILS: I hope the movie is more interesting than the trailer, which, quite honestly, put me to sleep.
