'Justice League' Comics Getting Packed In General Mills Cereal Boxes Through The Fall

There is no good reason to use Hal in a mainstream Justice League for children. This version of the JL belongs on the teeshirt of an adult who hallucinates about "PC" eating his childhood.

Cereal pack-in promotions typically require at least 18 months of lead time just to affect packaging. This program had been in the works for quite some time, with conversations between DC, Warner Bros. Consumer Products and General Mills having commenced while I was still headIng up sales, marketing and ad sales at DC. Kudos to Lisa Mills for starting the ball rolling and keeping it rolling.

Because the Marketing Department doesn't talk to the Publishing Department.

This is one of those ideas so obvious you have to wonder why they weren't already doing it.

Heck, both of the Big 2 have well-regarded all-ages lines. No reason Marvel shouldn't start bundling Marvel Adventures teaser comics in with Post cereals or something!

Knowing that this will be the first intro to the Justice League for some kids (and therefore the only version of the JL that they know) reminds me of a funny moment I witnessed at a comic store shortly after the Justice League cartoon had become popular. A little boy with his dad was looking at the new comics and said "Hawk...MAN? Look Dad, there's a comic with a man-version of Hawkgirl!"

Although I guess now if some little kid saw the New 52 Justice League after first seeing them in these cereal comics, he might go "Look Dad - it's the Justice League...but they don't look old and somebody scribbled lines all over their costumes!"

Does anyone work at DC's PR department? If you're going to re-design your characters, it would seem best to go with those character designs across the board to keep your thematic changes consistent.

For example, why does Superman look different on these cereal giveaways than he does in the current comic, and on the plates my son just bought for his birthday party?

When my son purchases Star Wars material, R2D2 is consistent in iteration, regardless of stylistic choices of the publishing medium. Why is Superman not treated with the same design respect?

The commercials, the chest-thumping and assuredness of the DC staff and now...

Maybe the targeted demographic for DC's reboot is actually smaller; not 18-34 but 18-25?

Of course, it's not for the younger set, but DC's hasn't cleared out the toys and beach towels and other things for those younger than 18.

This thing is so very strange, from an advertising/marketing stand-point.

At least one of these issue needs to feature a knockdown, drag out, punch' em up between the Justice League & the cereal mascots. Either that or a Justice League/Justice Society type crossover titled "Crisis at the Mills". Regardless of which story type they go with, Sonny the Cuckoo Bird has to be revealed as the villain of the piece.

For a minute I misread "chow down" as "choke down" and I was about to go H.A.M. on this comment section.
