Strong Female Characters is a new team of scantily-clad, ultra-violent super-heroines composed of Georgia O'Queefe, Queen Elizatits, and Susan B. Assthony. Created by Kate Beaton, Meredith Gran and Carly Monardo, the ladies poke fun at the way women are frequently depicted in modern adventure comics. Judging by the amount of fan art and Twitter discussion the Strong Female Characters have generated since their debut earlier this week, it seems the cartoonists were correct when they said (satirically, of course) that they knew what was missing from mainstream comics.

ComicsAlliance spotlighted yesterday some of the great material created by Beaton and her collaborators, but in that time they and a number of fans have contributed more drawings of Strong Female Characters, many of which can be found by tracking the #strongfemales tag on Twitter. Additionally, a dedicated Tumblr blog has been set up to archive all the artwork inspired by the team.

If nothing else, Beaton, Gran and Monardo have demonstrated through their work and that of their fans that drawing women with chests and butts facing the viewer must be really fun, perhaps accounting for a great deal of superhero comics art of the 1990s.
