If they have Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez on 1970s Superman, I'm in. Heck, they can have him on Batman, too.

I personally am looking forward to seeing these retro comics. For some time, I have been somewhat disappointed in the way Batman is becoming like a ninja with wings in the films, toys and quite often in the comics. I much preferred the 1980s stories with a more detective tone to them - faithful to the very first stories and with better artwork.

I am also pleased because I had the same idea about 3yrs ago, when I wrote this Batman story "Retrospect", but not fancying an apprenticeship on Psycho Salamander or some such, my writing has never crossed the desks at DC's offices. I think it's one of the cleverest one-shot Batman stories ever (even if I do say so myself). This is one of those projects that, as cool as it sounds, you really have to hold yourself suspicious of...what exactly are these guys going to do? How good will it be, given their long disassociation from these books, with only one issue to do something? I love most of the guys listed above, I'm definitely gonna buy Alan Grant's Batman no matter what (my favorite writer on the title bar none), but we've seen many, many times before that going home again doesn't usually yield the best results.

Something tells me it's very, very wrong to bank on this as an event - even a mini-event within an event - and just do it one by one on titles when the time feels right, for individual anniversaries and such. At the same time, IF these books are mostly good, then it's nice to have attention drawn to them. But if a lot of them end up "mehh" and forgettable...well, I'd rather that stamp not be put on these guys.

Who says we don't want reprints? Chances are they're better than the Brightest Day/War of the Whatevers new stuff.

Funny, you walk into a music store and buy a 20 year old CD like its nothing, but a reissued classic comic is ghetto-ized as a 'reprint'. Bizarre.

Although it's true that each issue will be 26 pages of new material plus 20 pages of reprints, I think it will be pretty cool because you'll be able to read (for example) a story inspired by the 70's era Batman ($2.99 for 26 pages, which makes it a better deal than current DC comics), plus another great story that was actually written from that era ($2.00). Where can you find a great Batman back issue from the 70's for $2.00? I am looking forward to these. But I've been a collector since '84, so I may already have some of the '80s/'90s reprints. But if you're a new collector, this is a good opportunity to learn more about DC's history.

no disrespect to Louise Simonson, but Dan Jurgens wrote and drew the definitive 90's Superman...this is zoo wrong he wasn't included.

$4.99....no thank you DC. You are getting like Marvel charging folks for reprints they don't want anyway.
