Marvel's 'American Panther' Teaser: Polarizing or Purrrrfect? [Poll]

Fear Itself is just getting started, but Marvel's already teasing what could be in store for T'Challa, the Black Panther with a classified dossier on an "American Panther." Francesco Francavilla's awesome art aside, this particular take on the character could prove polarizing. Transforming a proud African king (even if he's currently protecting Hell's Kitchen for Matt Murdock after essentially destroying Wakanda's most prominent natural resource) into a kind of Captain America supplement might not send the best message about forging one's own identity. Of course, there's every likelihood that this "American Panther" isn't even T'Challa! Fear Itself is reframing all kinds of heroes and villains with new looks and weapons, after all.

Seriously. What the hell is this? What was wrong with T'Challa being king of his country? There are plenty of stories to mine there. Why? Because he's running a country!

I know you can't possibly include every single option in the poll, but "Who cares? We all know it'll be back to normal in 6 months" is a pretty obvious one.

Cute on asking whether it's polarizing in the title and then not offering a real neutral option, though. Is it polarizing? Choose from one of these pre-polarized responses to tell us!

so marvel is taking a black man out of africa and changing his name... and wrapping him in the american flag?

that is absurdly racist.

maybe if they cast an black character as a new captain america., without changing everything so he can be The Black Captain of Black Blamerica... that would be cool... this is just a trainwreck of wrong.

I hope Marvel's not the company that would do that to their most prominent African hero. I've seen a lot of talk from people hoping this is Josiah X, which would be cool.

Except for the tiny eye-slits, that's one of the more "realistic" superhero costumes I've ever seen. Knowing absolutely zero about this book, were it published today I'd pick it up based on the strength of Francavilla alone.

Of all the idiocy Marvel has pulled down in the past decade or so, this is by far NOT the worst.

But it's still pretty bad.
