Watch the First TV Spot for 'Captain America: The First Avenger' [Video]

I know that they're using the "first avenger" aspect to tie into the whole Avengers movie, but I really hope they give Cap something to avenge. Else, it'll just seem forced (which it...really kinda already does).

My only explanation is that they put some sort of metallic primer on it, so the paint would stick. Thus, the denting or scratching that you see is the primer, and not the actual shield. Otherwise, that's a huge mistake. I know... I'm a geek, and I know the combination to Captain Kirk's safe

February 07 2011 at 12:35 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyThis looks..better than I anticipated. I have been largely skeptical in preparation for this movie so far. Firstly because of the casting of Chris Evans. Not because he was Johnny Storm, but I'm not quite sure he can pull off Steve Rogers due to his acting skill. Around the same time of the casting news, I saw Matt Damon in Invictus, and I lamented about it for a while.
Secondly because of the shots I've seen of HYDRA soldiers and vehicles. I'm not a big fan of the 100 percent "Marvelized" version of WW2. I feel like a normal, historical fictionalized Nazi heavy approach would prove to have more dramatic value. This "Marvelized" feeling also plays into me not liking "The First Avenger" part of the title.
Thirdly, Every quote that I've heard from Joe Johnston about this movie has made me think that his approach towards Captain America would be better in an animated series type medium. You know, along the lines of "We're gonna make a fun, kick-ass Captain America movie!" ugh.
That all being said. The thirty three seconds that I've seen does not look terrible. The quote from Dr. Erskine, "Whatever happens, stay who you are, not just a soldier but a good man.", allows me to hold out some hope of character development for Steve Rogers. The Red Skull looks great, and so does Peggy Carter. In the midst of all my skepticism.. I'll still be there at 11:59 on July 21st.
I really don't get why they're pushing the whole "Avenger" thing. Most people don't have any idea what that means. "Captain America" seems like a much more straightforward hook.

As in, it didn't seem to linger much on any visual and nothing really stuck in my head.
