As Adult Swim's animated action figure hit Robot Chicken
prepares to begin its fifth season on January 9, its easy to focus on the future. After all, the new season promises a guest appearance by Macaulay Culkin, a Star Wars Special
story segment by Geoff Johns and scads of other high profile madness as revealed at New York Comic Con
earlier this month. Still, every fan loves a good prologue, which makes taking in our recent interview with show co-creator and Executive Producer Matt Senreich feel like a wonderful blast from the cybernetic poultry past.
Talking to Jay Gaglione, Senreich reflected on the show's roughly ten year history beginning with a 2000 series of animated shorts that exploded into a full-blown series on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim block in 2005. Now, with 80 episodes and four specials under its belt, fans can expect the show to reach a full 100 episodes plus yet another Star Wars
special in 2011.
Given the show's penchant for parody, Senreich was asked if the Robot Chicken
crew had ever hit a nerve among the celebrities or toy companies they've lampooned on the show.
"We had one instance where there was a property that someone was like, 'You know...' They said 'cease and desist, don't do it anymore,' only to have their DVD department call us and say, 'Put [the content] on our DVD.' So that went away."
When pressed, Senreich couldn't name the entity (or even rhyme it), but longtime RC fans will likely suspect certain one of the parties referenced in season two's copyrightroversial (a term we just coined) "Archie's Final Destination" and ""Beavis and Butt-head meet the Teen Titans" sketches.
Controversial moments aside, Senreich made it a point to thank fans of the show for their continued support, noting that the show will hopefully roll on for as long as the creators have ideas.
