There are an awful lot of characters in superhero comics, and in today's fast-paced world of retcons and alternate universes, sometimes it can be difficult to keep track of who everyone is, if that's still who they are, whether they're alive, or if perhaps it turns out they never existed at all.
In today's original comic, writer
Curt Franklin and artist
Chris Haley of the illustrious "
Let's Be Friends Again" webcomic are here to help, as they explain the history of a notable comics character in their newest installment of "Comics, Everybody!" Today's subject:
Hawkman.

Wow, I had no idea Hawkman's character history was so complex.
And here I thought Wonder Woman had it bad.

Hawkman is confusing as hell. Doesnt stop me from loving him though. Smash some more heads, Carter! Violence solves everything.

Geez, now I see why Morrison just said "#@!$ it" and made up Zauriel when he wanted a Hawkperson for the JLA.

Honestly, this was probably the most sensible solution.

Actually, my understanding is that Hawkman was so messed up at the time, that DC flat-out wouldn't let anyone use the character at all, so Morrison had no choice but to make a new character if he wanted a Hawkperson in the League. (But I could be mistaken about that...)

I'm shocked at how much crazier this one is than the Xorn one. I mean, yeah, Xorn's only been around for a few years, but I just always kind of assume that X-Men characters have stupider histories than everybody else.

What's even crazier is there is a TON of stuff we left out for brevity's sake.

i'd like to see the longer, more crazy version. brevity is not called for. :)

It never ceases to amaze me how DC's "continuity fixer" events just made everything worse and worse.
