the chocobo and the bahamut (below the chocobo) were designed by Satoshi Kamiya not by Brian Chan. The diagrams are in the book Works of Satoshi Kamiya.

Its only origami, ofcourse it wont be perfect. But creating such imperfection requires the utmost perfect skills.

As one who folds complex models, i'd first like to explain what the artist is doing is called "wet folding", where the paper is kept damp throughout the model's creation, to allow him to make it look more "3 dimentional".
Necessarily, this is going to cause some wrinkling in the paper in most cases. Even the best origami artists (Eric Joisel comes to mind, I highly recomend you visit his site, http://www.ericjoisel.com ) will show wrinkling in some models; it depends on what he considers most important, the texture or the shape of the model.

This artist seems to be highly revered in his genre, and fetches a respectable sum of money for finished works. I would hardly call that shoddy. Catbus is beautiful, and I especially love his original style. Rendering things as exact replicas with details that mimic real objects is certainly tricky and requires skill, but rendering things with a personal and original interpretation is much more artistic.

1. This artist is obviously very skilled at what they do. This is obviously NOT traditional origami. As someone who has studied the art of origami myself I can tell you that these are the type of pieces that you will NEVER see int he traditional art. So you really can not compare this artist to the masters of the traditional art.

2. When it comes to attention to detail, there is actually an outstanding amount of detail in these pieces, considering what they are and what they are made of. The type of paper you see here is NOT traditional origami paper. You can tell just by taking a quick glance that this paper is much thicker and more rigid than traditional origami paper which is most often made of rice paper.
The reason for this is obviously because of the subject matter. You just CAN'T make these type of pieces with rice paper. It's far to fragile and you just can't make the type of shapes this artist does without damaging the paper.

3. You DON'T KNOW what this artist was going for with these pieces. Perhaps he didn't want so much detail? Perhaps he wanted to go with a more abstract or cereal look? You just don't know. But looking at the pieces and the amount of time that HAD to have gone into them it's really quite remarkable what he has done. There are probably hundreds of folds needed to make these pieces and it is really difficult to make so many folds and still keep the shape and image that you want.

over all, I say that this person has done a great job with these works of art. Great interpretations of the subjects and the art form used. Well done.
