Heat Vision reports that Fox has hired screenwriter David Scarpa to tackle the script for a relaunched "Daredevil" adaptation. Scarpa is best known for his work on "The Day the Earth Stood Still," the poorly received remake of the science fiction classic. On the flip side, he also wrote "The Last Castle," which was a decent (but not great) Robert Redford movie. For the sake of argument, let's say that Scarpa's work on those two projects prevents us from making any judgments about his quality as a writer -- but regardless, this movie won't be good.
Fox doesn't necessarily want to make another "Daredevil" movie so much as they have to make another "Daredevil" movie. If they don't head into production relatively soon, the franchise's rights will revert back to Disney and Marvel Studios. And while that would be a blessing for fans, there's no way that Fox would let that happen. Instead, they'll make a mediocre-at-best reboot because they have to, and they don't have the time to really think things through and they don't want to lose the character.
I want to see a great "Daredevil" movie as much as the next fan, but I just don't see it happening with this project. A solid director and actor combination could always change my opinion, but for now, we are skeptical to say the least.

Given that they've already run the franchise's name through the mud and a mediocre Daredevil movie is unlikely to be a financial success (since viewers will be expecting a bad movie), how does it benefit them to lose money on the project, just so they can retain the rights? All that gives them is the ability to lose even MORE money in the future.

Who are they going to cast as Elektra? Another up and coming Hollywood starlet? Anne Hathaway?

This is depressing. Fox should be less motivated by greed and more motivated to give true Marvel fans the chance to see a great movie. I wish I could slap whoever exactly chose to continue the chokehold on the franchise in the face.
They're being selfish, and they are going to make an ass out of themselves when the movie is side by side with the quality Marvel has been creating in house.
That is, if they really don't pull out all the stops for an awesome Daredevil movie.
