Make Your Own Star Trek Phaser

Here's what people who have never put themselves out there and actually tried to do anything spectacular don't understand about Lucas. Not only has he mad billions because SOMEBODY obviously goes to his movies (so they can't be too bad), but he is also a generational-marketing-genius!
Yes. Ewoks are lame....for adults. But Lucas hooked an entire generation of 2 year olds on them and now that those 2-year-olds are grown up they are watching the last trilogy with their kids.
I started out annual Star Wars Marathon last night and, for the first time, my 2-year-old son was finally old enough to understand the family tradition. He couldn't stop cracking up at Jar Jar. Sure, I cringe at the sight of that crazy Gungan but I finally understood what Lucas was doing: Darth Maul for the older kids, Jar Jar for the younger kids, lots of droids and lasers in between, and Georgey-Boy is laughing on his way to the bank!
Don't forget Issue 6's recap:
"Then I shot the jerk with the smartass mouth", BLAM, "Blimey"
"Wrap it up Buttercup!"
To start, Jar jar binks was an abomination, I don't think there are many people over the age of 5 who'd disagree.
Second. Okay, so I saw the original 3 when I was young, and they were awesome at the time. And yes, they do look a bit corny now. BUT. The prequel 3 stink because the acting makes Keanu Reeves look Shakespearean, the plot was childish, (we still make jokes about, 'I must win, I have the high ground')and the dialogue makes me want to scream, it sounds like it was written by a 14 y/o fanboy. The effects however are gorgeous, stunning, beautiful, but that only serves to accentuate how bad the rest of it is. Just my two penn'th
I can't believe Lucas would think ppl would endear themselves to ole Jar Jar. At least he got very little screentime after Ep 1.

Another prequel bashing joke. Sigh. It's sad when people bash the prequels because it's the 'popular' thing to do, and not because they personally dislike them; the latter's acceptable, the former is just sad. (Of course, there's no way to tell which example the poster who wrote this comic is. >_>) I don't find this seriously funny or cool. It's amusing, but it's not exceptional. This just paints Deadpool as a psychopath for shooting someone for not agreeing with him, over such a measly ridiculous subject, when he's clearly facing a threat outside from the spaceship and needs all the help he can get (probably; hey, it's Deadpool, after all). On the other hand, THAT IS what Deadpool is, so it's not out of character. :P
"Actually, this might be the reason nobody sais it. Even if they did think it, they'd shat bricks in fear of someone punishing them for their ugly and fail-tastic comment."
I'd say Episode III:Revenge of the Sith is better than a certain movie everybody seems to worship, which I haven't watched end to end in about two years. And I wouldn't be afraid to say it (Probably since I can beat up anyone who tried to fight me over it, but the point still stands. It's not Empire, by the way. >_>) If someone's going to fight me over such a ridiculous reason, I'm going to give them the suitable ass kicking. :P Everyone is entitled to their opinion, even when it conflicts with the 'enlightened' masses (read: a small fraction of the fandom). Wasn't ESB received negatively by some people back in the 1980's, because it had no beginning and no end, according to some critics, and had a bleak ending? People forget the movies weren't all that well received back in the original release days. They made a massive amount of money in theaters, but they had plenty of detractors in their time. There are even some early reviews of A New Hope calling it crap, which you can find on Wikipedia in the list of references. They're only grown to be a huge pop culture phenomena permanently embedded in our society over time, and now that everybody worships the trilogy in the fandom among those older viewers, they conveniently forget the series' humble origins. But I'm probably taking things too seriously for what is essentially a panel of Deadpool shooting a guy in a comic, with no background info on what is going on and no other purpose besides setting up a joke. :P
Hey, sometimes I take things too seriously. :) I'm only human, after all. But I mean what I said about prequel bashers. Reminds me of the people who ridicule cosplayers, while they then go and dress up like shirtless, overweight buffoons painted with body paint and screaming in a stadium for their football team in the middle of winter. One is cool and the other is ridiculous because it's not what THEY like.
tldr. Jar Jar is an abomination.

It's the thing to do because its TRUE.
Interwebz has spoken.
I think you guys may have been hitting the crack pipe one too many times, because the original Star Wars movies were fantastic. The new ones are okay, but I still don't see how in the world they could be considered better than the old ones. The new ones aren't bad movies, its just that they'll never ever be able to match the glory of the classics. Guess thats what happens when you've reached the point where its almost impossible to improve on an already incredible series.
January 18 2010 at 5:50 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyCan we quit with the original trilogy worship already? They were good movies but please.... just because you watched it as a kid doen't mean its good.
January 13 2010 at 1:30 PM Report abuse Permalink +1 rate up rate down ReplyYou right, it is good because it had a well thought out story line, lovable characters, and stakes you actually cared about.
January 14 2010 at 1:25 PM Report abuse Permalink +1 rate up rate down ReplyThe original trilogy were good movies for a couple of reasons.
1. Lucas has stated in numerous interviews that when he made the the first movie he was trying to emulate the adventure serials that he remembered from his childhood, which emerges as childhood fantasy from an adult perspective. The importance being that he made the first movie for adults. He stated several times during the filming of the second trilogy that he was making them for his kids, which as children's movies they work. My 9 year old thinks they are the greatest things ever.
2. Irving Kershner directed Empire.
3. Return is largely shite. Can't really defend that one.
Now see this joke makes no sense because NO ONE has ever said that the prequel trilogy is better or that HC is any good.
