The artists here are not trying to duplicate Bill Watterson but do Calvin and Hobbes in their own style. It's interesting to see different approaches to a classic idea.
PS - My favorite would have to be Drew Weing
I cannot begin to understand most of these comments. Of course none of these people are Watterson, but they are of their own genius. I love seeing characters I love reinterpreted by fabulous artists. Why would these people want to just copy the original when their own spin and interpretation is so interesting. And many of these are by very well known artists - if you don't know them, you should check them out. Hornscheimer and Weing are my two favorites (and both really nice guys and extremely talented). I appreciate Mack getting in the infamous snowmen of C&H in his.

December 14 2009 at 8:12 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyYou have to give credit where credit is due... and not a single one of these sketches demanded even my attention Bill Watterson is nothing short of raw genius he may have gone away but he will live on in the hearts of many "heroes get remembered, but legends never die"(Babe Ruth, The Sandlot). I guess only those who truely appreciate what Bill Watterson did when he created "Calvin & Hobbes" are the ones who know that it should never be altered, recreated piece by piece fine but never altered it would pale in comparrison otherwise... these made me sad and must now read a few of the real sketches to rekindle the love lost because of
these........
Bill Watterson made the complaint that newspapers were shrinking his works of art. I agreed with him. I was almost to the point that I had to use a magnifying glass to see/enjoy his art. I wrote to the Houston Chronicle telling them that I subscribed to their paper only to get that one cartoon strip and should Bill ever quit doing it I would quit taking the paper.
I quit taking the paper in 1996
No one will replace Bill Waterson, or the original Calvin and Hobbes.

I still miss it. :(
