"Justice League of America" writer Dwayne McDuffie is a former "Justice League of America" writer now, as announced by DC Executive Editor Dan Didio in a recent Newsarama interview. When someone on his message board asked why he had been removed from the book, Duffie said that he was fired for being a little too open with fans:Nope, it was my own doing. I was fired when "Lying in the Gutters" ran a compilation of two years or so of my answers to fans' questions on the DC Comics discussion boards. I'm told my removal had nothing to with either the quality of my work or the level of sales, rather with my revelation of behind-the-scenes creative discussions. The "Lying in the Gutters" issue that McDuffie mentions actually introduces his quotes by saying that "it's rare that a creator is so open and honest about the ins and outs of working on such a series. And it's done without malice, accusation or blame, just an acceptance that this is the way things work." Sounds like it's about to become even rarer.

Nice. I love how the guys running DC always say that they aren't too heavy-handed in their editorial dictation but the actual writers and artists contradict this at every turn. It seems that confirming it in print is tantamount to treason. While I am not McDuffie's biggest fan, his point about JLA is valid. The JLA book needs the big guns. Anything else and we might as well bust out our JLA Europe back issues.
I'd give the guy a chance to tell the JLA story he wants to tell before canning him outright.
