Jeff Smith Says "Manga Is Just Not that Good" (ComicsAlliance)
Oct 20th 12:33 PM: Y'know what? I agree with Jeff on this point here. Manga, or at least that which was imported into the United States after the 1980s, is just not that good. I mean, the majority of the titles (and remember, there is a HUGE MULTITUDE of manga titles in the world. More, I think, than western comics.) On the other hand, there is good manga out there, such as Akira, or my personal favorite: Blackjack. Still, there are less American titles, and more creators working on fewer titles. There are also independent titles, and American creators are trained and devoted to their fields; manga creators fall into it because they can't get better jobs. I for one think that American comics are higher quality, and both more creative and more entertaining. Manga is so filled with cliches and commonly-used trappings. Get over it. I prefer American comics, and to be honest, I think that if most Otakus (like you, Gia, who, by the way, shouldn't even be on a Blog site devoted to a genre and industry you hate with a passion) gave them a chance, they would agree.
A Christmas Present From the WB: 'The Dark Knight' Prologue on IMAX (ComicsAlliance)
Oct 20th 12:17 PM: B.K., I hope you mean that as a complement. I know a lot of people who think Batman is lame (those comments, however, usually come from little kids who would rather see a big green muscle-man beat up on a bigger, greener dragon who sounds Chinese, but comes from a distant planet.) However, I do agree that both the movies and the comics are fantastic! Huge improvements over the Schumacher Batman movies, and a rather sizable improvement over the Tim Burton Batman movies. Batman begins reminded me of "Batman: Year One" by Frank Miller and Dave Mazzuchelli, and the seventies Batman comics by Dennis O'Neal.

Apr 1st 2:25 PM: Bea stated: You totally missed Rush in this one...
Shatter the illusions of integrity? Say what? What self-respecting rocker would ever utter a line like that???
Hey, Bea? F*CK YOU!Rush is the greatest band ever, and this is a beautiful and poetic lyric. Analyze it instead of just saying some nonsensical dog crap like that. If you were here right now, I would smack you. To shatter an illusion is to break down, destroy, dismantle, dissolve, or otherwise REMOVE an illusion. An illusion is a deception or other form of "mask" so to speak which removes the truth from your sight and replaces it with something else. So if INTEGRITY (honor, honesty, etc.) is an ILLUSION, then to SHATTER it is to REMOVE the ILLUSION which is INTEGRITY. And look at the surrounding lines before you speak. Everything written by Rush is amazing. They even have a lot of good instrumental pieces, which is more than can be said about most bands. They're deep, poetic, philosophical, clever, talented, intelligent, and they know what they're doing. I for one am glad that Rush isn't on this list. But if there was any Rush song which had to be here, it would have to be Fly By Night. The same line is repeated constantly, and that's probably the only problem that any of their songs have.
What do you listen to, Bea? Are you a rap fan? How about I crank up some "Xanadu" (based on a poem by Samuel Taylor Coleridge, by the way) and you give me "Smack That" and we'll see how they match up.

Oh wow, Ashley. Very creative response. You know, R.E.M. might not be the most perfect band. They may have missed the mark a few times, and they might not have drum machines, smoke machines, rhyme machines, and listening machines (you're a perfect example) like Half-A-Buck does. They're not the most popular or the most marketable band in the world, but they're creative, they're clever, intelligent, and they're a GOOD band. They took an adjective and used it as a noun. Big deal? RAP or HIP-HOP or whatever is all the same. Variations on one theme: stupidity. Who cares if someone can "spit rhymes" at a rate of 500 RPM (rhymes per minute, if you're too stupid to get the reference)? R.E.M. is a very good band, and they deserve more respect.
Now, let me ask you Ashley, what do you listen to?
Stupid. You people are the cause for all of the world's problems.
