Oct 30th 9:05 AM: I was going to say the same thing... Frankly I do not think they should use the picture at all. He nor was the other gentleman admireing that woman's backside. It goes to show that a picture may say a thousand words- it might be the wrong ones.

'Orphan' Angers Adoptive Parents (ParentDish)
Jul 22nd 8:53 PM: First off I agree that a movie is a movie and people who take fiction too much to heart and make decisions based on that them should not be adopting children. But I think what folks who are saying it's only a movie fail to see is it is not that concerned people are concerned because people can't tell a movie from a newspaper its the perpetuation of stereotypes- especailly ones that are deep in our psyche. As I posted earier. The movies commercial absolutely felt really wrong- I just don't have another word for it- to me. I am not an adoptive parent I am not an adopterd child and have no personal reason to be "overly" sensitive- other than being a feeling person.
'Orphan' Angers Adoptive Parents (ParentDish)
Jul 22nd 8:43 PM: I'm glad it isn't just me. I just recently saw the commercial for this movie and I thought to hooked into what I thought was very old fashioned orphan stereotypes. I mean I was thinking, like, victorian era stereotypes. You know- Mrs Lynde in Anne of Green Gables warning Marilla about the orphan (a girl, of course, because they are worse) that put poison in the family's well. I am sad to hear that it is still so previlent, making the movie really very hurtful. I can't believe they actually even wrote that tag line about it being hard to love an adopted child as much as a biological one down on scrap paper, let alone ran with it long enough to be pulled. No sense or sensitivity over at WB.

I can understand that worry. This kind of garbage that goes on on-line is truely hurtful and undermining. The fact is we are all generally proud of where we come from. If your Irish it may give you an extra bit of pleasure when Bono does great things with the ONE foundation. Or if you are Dominican and watch David Ortiz help bring the Red Sox to another post-season. And while I am a proponant of moving forward and making sure the past and history is remembered, learned from but not haunting us or living in it. Slavery in this country is not that old yet. It's not. An American army regulation says you mustn't kill more than 10% of a nation because to do so causes permanent "psychological damage" well wether it's permanent or not I don't know but think about the possible permanent psychological mindset of the children of slaves. Understand I don't agree with racism, descrimination - reversed or otherwise but we need to step into anothers shoes and wear them a bit.

Jul 1st 3:27 PM: Our freedoms are not supposed to trample others freedoms. We don't need to be "nicey-nice" but if we create an enviroment of hostility that robs people of their freedom from fear.
