Dabel Brothers to Adapt Dean Koontz's Frankenstein

Frankenstein Book 1: Prodigal Son coverPress Release

With over five million copies sold worldwide of the first two novels in Koontz's proposed Frankenstein trilogy, the graphic adaptation produced by the Dabel Brothers of "Frankenstein Book 1" is destined to be a Number 1 bestseller in the graphic novel and comic book categories as well.

If the Dabel Brothers can be accused of anything in life, it's in thinking big.

They stunned the comic book world in 2003 with their graphic adaptation of George R. R. Martin's The Hedge Knight. They upped the ante when they joined forces with Marvel Comics to produce Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter, which immediately became one of the bestselling graphic novels of 2007 within one month from publication.

Today Les and Ernst Dabel announced that their next wave of comic book adaptations of popular novels will include one of the bestselling novels of the decade: an adaptation of Dean R. Koontz's Frankenstein Book 1: Prodigal Son!

"We love surprises," laughed Ernst Dabel, President of Dabel Brothers Productions, "and we're certain that many people will be absolutely stunned to hear that we're working with such a well-known author as Dean Koontz. And we're excited! Mr. Koontz is an amazing writer with some incredible ideas, and we're thrilled to have a chance to bring his Frankenstein story into the comic book medium."

Says Dean Koontz: "I'm delighted that Frankenstein will come to life in comic book form, and that the project is being guided by such capable hands as those of the Dabel Brothers. I usually don't say things like 'they rock,' but it's inescapable: 'they rock.'"

Dean Koontz's Frankenstein: Prodigal Son is the first book in Koontz's proposed trilogy of novels set in modern day New Orleans. This is a powerful reworking of one of the classic stories of all time-- Mary Shelley's classic gothic novel. Every city has secrets. But none as terrible as this. His name is Deucalion (previously known as Frankenstein's monster), a tattooed man of mysterious origin, a sleight-of-reality artist who's traveled the centuries with a secret worse than death. He arrives in New Orleans as a serial killer stalks the streets, a killer who carefully selects his victims for the humanity that is missing in himself. Detective Carson O'Connor is cool, cynical, and every bit as tough as she looks. Her partner Michael Maddison would back her up all the way to Hell itself-and that just may be where this case ends up. For the no-nonsense O'Connor is suddenly talking about an ages-old conspiracy, a near immortal race of beings, and killers that are more-and less-than human. Soon it will be clear that as crazy as she sounds, the truth is even more ominous. For their quarry isn't merely a homicidal maniac-but his deranged maker, Dr. Frankenstein-now known as Victor Helios.

The first issue of the comic book is set to arrive on shelves in February, 2008. The series will be monthly and will eventually adapt both novels in the series published to date, beginning with Frankenstein: Prodigal Son. The comic books will be carried through Diamond Comic Distributors and available at comic book stores across North America.

Marvel & Dabel Brothers Conclude Publishing Relationship

Press Release

Marvel Entertainment, Inc. and Dabel Brothers Productions, LLC announced today that they are mutually ending their publishing relationship. In 2006, Marvel and Dabel Brothers signed an agreement for Marvel to market, print and distribute several limited and ongoing series, in addition to some other dynamic new properties. Founded in 2001, the Dabel Brothers have specialized in creating comic books and graphic novels based on the works of best-selling authors' series such as Laurell K Hamilton's Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter; George R. R. Martin's Hedge Knight; and Orson Scott Card's Tales Of Alvin Maker and others.

Marvel Entertainment, Inc. President and Publisher Dan Buckley explained, "We have great respect for the Dabel Brothers' business and the relationships they have generated. Our partnership has been an exciting experience for both companies. We wish the Dabels well in their future publishing endeavors and hope to work with them again, should the opportunity present itself."

"Working with Marvel was a dream come true for all of us, and we enjoyed the opportunity to learn from the comic book industry's market leader," said Ernst Dabel, President of Dabel Brothers Productions. "We're looking forward to applying those lessons to our business as we resume our status as a self-publisher, and we plan to continue producing top-quality adaptations of best-selling science fiction, fantasy, horror and thriller novels by popular authors.

Going forward, Marvel will continue to publish Anita Blake Vampire Hunter by Laurell K. Hamilton; the Hedge Knight series by George RR Martin; Tales of Alvin Maker and Wyrms by Orson Scott Card; Magician Apprentice by Raymond Feist; Lords of Avalon by Kinley MacGregor; and Highwayman by R.A. Salvatore. Dabel Brothers Productions will begin work on its next wave of books, slated for release in early 2008.

June's Anita Blake Poster Features a Special Character

Press Release

The first official depiction of the popular werewolf Richard from Laurell K. Hamilton's bestselling Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter novels is sure to tease fans waiting for the return of the comics in July.

June is a peculiar month in 2007 for Dabel Brothers Productions - it's the only month in the year where an issue of the company's bestselling comic book series, Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter, isn't scheduled for release.

But the Dabel Brothers aren't taking a month off from Anita Blake; in fact, they're preparing for the hotly anticipated release of their first Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter graphic novel and the all new, original prequel series written by Laurell K. Hamilton herself, Anita Blake: The First Death, both of which hit stores in July, published by Marvel Comics. And, just to show that they know how hard the wait can be, the Dabel Brothers have commissioned series artist Brett Booth to illustrate a popular character who first appears in the novel Circus of the Damned: Richard Zeeman, a powerful lycanthrope who serves as Ulfric, or king, of a pack of werewolves!

"Richard doesn't appear in Guilty Pleasures, the book we're currently adapting," explained Ernst Dabel, President of Dabel Brothers Productions. "So fans of the comic book won't be familiar with him yet. But fans of the novels, on the other hand, know that once Richard appears, he becomes one of the most important characters in the story, serving as a romantic interest for Anita and a powerful influence on part of her personality. We're proud to be able to bring fans of the Anita Blake series a glimpse of Richard in such a beautiful print, and we're sure it will be our most popular poster yet!"

Since the release of their last 18x24 poster print in April, the Dabel Brothers have received numerous requests to offer smaller sizes for those who would like to display the artwork in their lockers, cubicles, or offices. The Dabel Brothers have decided to offer the June print in two sizes: an 8x11 poster printed on glossy photo paper, and an 18x24 poster printed on the same high quality, glossy paper used for previous prints. The smaller print will sell for $4.99, while the larger will sell for $14.99. The print will go on sale on the Dabel Brothers Productions website http://www.dabelbrothers.com on Thursday, June 21st.

Wholesale rates are available to retailers who are interested in carrying the Official Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter series of prints in their stores. Retailers interested in carrying these items should contact Derek Ruiz, Sales Manager, at druiz@dabelbrothers.com or call (770) 917-1946. April's Anita Blake Print on Sale Wednesday, April 25th From Dabel Brothers

Anita Blake posterPress Release

New poster print features the character fans have been asking for the most - Anita Blake, fighting her way out of a swarm of zombies!

When the comic book adaptation of Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter in Guilty Pleasures hit shelves, they gave fans an image of Jean-Claude, a powerful vampire who owns a nightclub and shares a special connection with Anita Blake. In February, they gave fans Aubrey, the vampire exotic dancer from the Guilty Pleasures Nightclub. In March, it was Phillip, the man who willingly gave himself to vampires to feed upon to feed his own strange addiction to the experience.

And now, in celebration of the successful launch of Anita Blake #6 last week, Dabel Brothers Productions and Laurell K. Hamilton have decided to give fans the print they've demanded the most: an image of Anita Blake herself, drawn by series artist Brett Booth!

The print will go on sale on the Dabel Brothers Productions website (http://www.dabelbrothers.com) at noon EST on Wednesday, April 25th, and should offer fans of the series the perfect way to begin their countdown to the release of this summer's Hardcover collection of the series and the release of the original comic book miniseries by Laurell K. Hamilton, Anita Blake: The First Death, both of which are produced by Dabel Brothers Production and published by Marvel Comics. Those who purchase a print will automatically be entered into a special drawing to receive signed copies of both the Hardcover collection and the first issue of the summer miniseries following their launch in July, 2007!

The print will measure 18x24 and be printed on a sturdy, glossy paper, suitable for framing, at the lovely price of $14.99. It features a brand new take on Anita's striking pose from the cover of the second issue's second printing, and depicts her climbing out of a nest of zombies with a gun in one hand and a bloody knife in the other, glaring over her shoulder. Her shirt proudly bears an image of one of her trademark penguins -- in this case, a penguin dressed like Dracula with the phrase "I Vant to Peck Your Neck" in blood red letters above and below.

Customers will also be able to purchase February's print, featuring the exotic male vampire dancer, Aubrey, as well as March's print, which features Phillip wearing a special costume that many fans have absolutely adored. Best of all, during the first four weeks of the print's release, all three posters can be purchased together for the one-time price of $39.99!

The print can be viewed at this link: http://dabelbrothers.com/plugins/p17_image_gallery/images/102.jpg.
