Just in time for convention season, Iron Fist Clothing (not to be confused with Iron Fist, the Marvel superhero) has unveiled a Spring/Summer capsule collection entitled Super Bitches that features pin-up styled artwork of superheroines and villains. Known for their eclectic catalogue of monster-themed high heels and glam collaborations with RuPaul's Drag Race, the LA-based clothing label collaborated with artist Lora Zombie to create this cheeky comic-inspired print to showcase fierce and empowered super-women in a shared feminine and feminist light.

Although the term "bitch" can bear a heavy weight of sexist negativity, I think it's clear that Iron Fist Clothing is honing the term to celebrate strong women. From the cowls to the capes, Zombie obviously took inspiration from DC Comics' Wonder Woman, Batgirl, Catwoman, and Poison Ivy for her scantily-clad heroines and villains. And while the print may be a bit risqué for some, the Super Bitches collection features some great statement pieces for a Spring wardrobe and comic conventions.

After last week's tragic events in the city of Boston led to the postponement of Boston Comic Con, the show's organizers collaborated with New England's local comic shops to put together a variety of events throughout the weekend, to the delight of the convention's would-be attendees. Local comic retailers held their own free mini-conventions, wherein each shop set up an artist alley featuring a handful of Boston Comic Con's guest creators. In light of Boston Comic Con's tumultuous events that occurred over the week in Boston, both fans and creators seemed rather content and grateful to participate in these events after a week of stress and anxiety.

After a day of "lockdown" in my headquarters, I decided to celebrate the new day in Boston by trekking out to the Not-The-Boston-Comic-Con Get-Together at Comicazi in Somerville, where Tim Sale, David Mack, Bill Willingham, Don Rosa, Ming Doyle, Erica Henderson, Agnes Garbowska, Tim Seeley, Ale Garza and Nick Bradshaw were stationed with merchandise in tow. Check out photos from the event after the cut!
Not only did Comicazi have the exclusive Boston Comic Con 2013 shirt (designed by Sale) and the exclusive Boston Comic Con variant cover for My Little Pony (illustrated by Agnes Garbowska) available, many of the artists provided free sketches for fans. Judging by the overwhelming turnout at all of the impromptu events this weekend, it's clear the spirit of the convention, and the city, is still standing strong.

Organizers plan to reschedule Boston Comic Con to a later date this year.

Kelly Sue DeConnick (Captain Marvel, Avengers Assemble) has collaborated with WeLoveFine to guest curate a collection of t-shirts featuring Marvel Comics superheroes such as Captain Marvel and Spider-Woman. The showcase includes bright pop art designs and straight-from-the-pages artwork of two of Marvel's favorite heroines. DeConnick will be donating her curation commission to Girls' Leadership Institute, a nonprofit organization that seeks "to help foster and give voice to the heroines of tomorrow."
Over on her blog, DeConnick said the "Captain Marvel Rising Star" design seen at the bottom of this page is her favorite of the three shirts currently on offer, but that another two designs yet to be revealed are also in her top three choices. Whether those designs will be made available depends on the success of these initial products.

Known in the comics community for her great style, DeConnick has also been posting examples of how women can modify the larger sized mens shirts by cutting them up or otherwise altering them at home to make a more feminine and, if you like, fiercer look. In collaboration with Lucasfilm, Australian fashion brand Black Milk Clothing has released the latest installment of its Star Wars Collection today (the previous installments can be seen here). Black Milk Clothing's latest Star Wars designs include a trompe-l'oeil Darth Vader swimsuit, spandex speckled with AT-ATs, and a swimsuit featuring a light saber battle between Luke and Darth Vader. In addition to the new releases, Black Milk Clothing has also lowered their prices on their entire Star Wars collection, as well as offering free international shipping this month.
Known for its previous catalogue of galaxy-printed spandex and Game Boy dresses, Black Milk Clothing utilizes digital printing to create unique apparel that is frequently pop-culture-friendly, often limited edition, and always fashion forward. While the designs may not all be suitable for the more stylishly subtle, Black Milk produces some great statement pieces that are bound to please geeky fashionistas.

MAC Cosmetics will be launching their Archie Comics collection just in time for Valentine's Day, featuring makeup products inspired by Riverdale's own Betty Cooper and Veronica Lodge. Known for their critically acclaimed beauty products and collaborations with pop culture icons (including Hello Kitty, Barbie, and Wonder Woman), MAC Cosmetics' Archie Comics products will feature exclusive new shades and special edition accessories. However, the most unique feature of this collection is that the products are evenly split (like Archie's heart) to suit either the Girl-Next-Door (sweet candy shades of pink and peach) or the Sophisticated Fashionista (deep vixen tones of red and purple).


Archie Co-CEO John Goldwater talked about the collection with Robot 6 earlier this month.
It's going to bring us back into the consciousness of so many people who aren't necessarily comic book fans or graphic novel fans. MAC is known as the arbiters of modern, of cool, of hip - for us to be able to partner with them is an honor. We are thrilled they saw us in the same light as Elton John, Lady Gaga, these pop culture phenomena they partner with. They did Wonder Woman [cosmetics]. It will be in places that may not be familiar with Archie over the globe - Europe, the Far East. In places where they are aware of Archie, it's a fresh coat of paint - we're here, we're vibrant, we're important. Where Archie has no awareness, it's 'Who are they, what are Archie, Betty and Veronica all about?' We are not well known in the U.K. and other places in Europe, so this is an opportunity for us to create that awareness, that buzz.
