With nearly all the significant roles cast for director Marc Webb's upcoming sequel
The Amazing Spider-Man 2, it's possible the only major announcement left was who would be playing Norman Osborn, Peter Parker's mentor-turned-nemesis and the father of his best friend, Harry. Reports out of Hollywood have confirmed that Webb has found his Norman Osborn, as
Oscar-winning actor Chris Cooper has signed on to play the role. The casting of Cooper -- who won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in the 2002 film
Adaptation but will forever be remembered for his
painfully awkward memorable rap in
The Muppets -- will likely come as welcome news to fans of the franchise. It's unclear whether Osborn, a.k.a. the Green Goblin, will turn full villain in this film. If so, that makes for a pretty crowded field of adversaries for Spider-Man, as Jamie Foxx and Paul Giamatti have already signed on to play Electro and The Rhino, respectively.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 stars Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, revising their roles as Peter Parker/Spider-Man and Gwen Stacy. It is set to arrive in theaters May 2, 2014.
