If you've never checked out PBS's YouTube series Off Book, you're missing out. Every other Thursday the web series debuts a new segment focusing on the cultural impact of various artistic and writing endeavors. Past videos have focused on indie video games, graphic design, the effect of color, internet comedy, and the impact Twitter has on journalism, just to name a few topics. Each installment features interviews with interesting and popular voices in their respective fields, and the newest video, titled "The Art of Illustration," has a few recognizable names.
Sean Murphy, Yuko Shimizu, Molly Crabapple and New School Art Professor Steven Guarnaccia each discuss what being an artist means today, both collectively and to them as individuals, and I think each shares some rather interesting insights. You can check out the full video after the cut. It's about eight minutes long, and definitely worth it.
ComicsAlliance is where comic books and pop culture collide, superheroes battle through movies and video games, and graphic novels steal the headlines.
