Although cosplay has been present for decades within the comics, anime, and sci-fi/fantasy fandoms, social media has played an integral role in the thriving communities of costuming that exist, such as Cosplay.com and the Superhero Costuming Forum. In honor of the many fans who've displayed excellence in the mastery of homemade disguise, craftsmanship, and sartorial superheroics, ComicsAlliance has created Best Cosplay Ever (This Week), an ongoing collection of some of the most impeccable, creative, and clever costumes that we've discovered and assembled into a super-showcase of pure fan-devoted talent.

Oh gosh! I'm that Flame Princess! My Finn sent me this while I was in class and it was hard to contain my excitement. Thanks for the recognition - these cosplays were not only difficult and time consuming to complete due to detail work, but also mean a LOT to Mary (Finn) and I! Again, thanks so much!

Do you mind if I ask what drew you to that character? You see a lot more female Finns than you do male. And you chose Finn when you could have just as easily said Fiona.

I enjoy cosplaying male characters more than female because I don't consider myself a very feminine person? Out of all of the characters I've done, I've cosplayed about 18 boys in comparison to only six girls. Meaghan (my Flame Princess) and I also wanted to portray these two characters as being in a relationship, the way it's implied they are in the show, and Flame Princess is dating Finn, not Fionna! Finn isn't a character I would have been particularly drawn to by himself - I usually prefer characters with a little more detail in their costumes - but rather I was drawn to portraying Finn and Flame Princess as a set with my friend. I hope that answers your question!

Very well, thank you for your time. Sorry for the delay in responding, but I couldn’t log in for some reason.

The oven mitt was a nice touch, as it were. If you did Fiona, Meaghan could do Flame Prince. But I don’t want get going on Adventure Time, I could talk about that all day.

I’ve been following Bethany’s articles here for a while, at first just to see the pretty girls, but after a while I started to get that there is something very complex going on here. Maybe I’ve been watching too much Bones, but I find the anthropology of cosplay fascinating.

Sure, some of it is kids playing dress up, some of it is fetish and powerplay, and of course just the otaku aspect of just trying to get the design perfect. But there also seems to be something else, people trying to assert an identity or escape an identity, maybe even satire identity as a concept, I don’t know.

But anyway, thanks again.

Finn and Flame Princess, and classic Scarlet Witch are especially good (so are Black Cat and Catwoman, but I've seen so many of those).

I always like to see costumes that aren't popular at the moment or a bit obscure and it was certainly a nice surprise to see Ursula.

My favorite professional this week is Emma Frost. My favorite amatuer is Cyclops. His gloves look like dish washing gloves but he's rockin' it! Get your swag on, Scott!
