Parting Shot: How Would Batman Beat The Avengers?

I do remember, it was just a really weak shout-out for something that wasn't fully planned out (Cap was also supposed to be encased in ice a deleted scene if I remember right). Marvel didn't fully get a plan together until Iron Man 2.

Well, out of all of the Avengers to fight, she's the only one she punches in the face. They could have made a joke about Spiders or something? They could have just involved her?

Point is, in a vacuum, this could be fine, but we don't live in a vacuum. We live in a world where a lot of women get beat up often.
She is a martial arts, assassin, extraordinaire, but she's not shown as that. There's nothing that says that in the picture, because like you said Earlofthercs, she's just punched in the face and beaten so easily. Without any of her character shown, she's just a woman... getting punched in the face. I can understand why this would be triggering for some people.

To the contrary, I think that in a vacuum is where this portayal suffers and becomes... for lack of a better term... offensive.

If, however, you look at the context of the portrayals that the audience has in their minds (meaning a working knowledge of the characters, their capablilities and standing in the universes), you'll see Widow is the only one not made into a laughingstock or made fun of, but rather actually defeated in a way that is... well... respectable. She's the only one treated as anything close to an equal.

And the fact that we're both right just goes to show that sometimes you should see something meant to be funny and laugh instead of putting it through the Freudian meat-grinder.
