'The Dark Knight Rises' Novelization Hints At The Joker's Fate

Which goes directly to one of the things that irritates me about Rises. In TDK one of the main points they make is that Batman has "changed things and there'a no going back". By becoming Batman he's inspired the birth of supervillains and they are now a fact of life. And having brought supervillains into existence he then, um, immediately retires. Gotham shouldn't have been nearly crime free, it should have been a ghost town because the Joker and his ilk murdered thousands with no one to stop them.

Wow, that's...almost inspiring. To think, someone was paid money to write those words.

That's definitely a fitting last reference to the character. I only wish that Nolan would have had a film set between TDKR and TDK featuring the Riddler and Penguin as villains, they most surely would have fit into his universe. But then again I do appreciate how he handled the trilogy and perhaps another would simply tarnish it's legacy. Maybe from here on out they'll skip the origin story in Batman movies and begin en medias res

From what I've read of his work I strongly suspect Cox is the go-to need-it-done-yesterday guy. I read some of this book, and it isn't horrendous but it's just the movie translated into prose in the most efficient, add-nothing way possible. It's not a novelization, it's a description.

I remember liking the Peter David Spider-Man ones, and James Luceno's The Shadow is good. Max Allan Collins' Dick Tracy was so lovingly crafted it prompted the fimmakers to make the movie more in tune with the book. Then they told him to change it to not reveal who the Blank really was before the movie came out, and then a coloring book did just that. It's a funny story he tells in the commentary on one of the old Tracy movies.
