I love the 2nd amendment. All you hippie liberals can suck it if you don't!

July 23 2012 at 10:54 AM Report abuse Permalink +6 rate up rate down ReplyI think the other conversation we have to have is acknowledging the line between fantasy and reality. The more you hear about this guy the more it sounds like he was trying to be a real life supervillian, what with his body armor and his booby traps.
Now I’m not blaming the art for this or advocating censorship, crazy people misinterpret things all the time, that’s what makes them crazy. One of the reasons the comiccon community is so much fun, and also I think important, is that is allows us to step out of reality and express ourselves in ways that are inappropriate in the real world, but we all know people who take things too far.
As members of this community it’s our responsibility to set a minimum standard. We shouldn’t create an environment where people are encouraged to completely lose touch with reality. We shy away from that because we don’t want to be like the norms, who think we’re all childish weirdoes for enjoying this stuff, but there has to be a point when we put our collective foot down.
And we better have the conversation before everybody else does. Remember, this assh*le is still alive. At some point we’re all going to know exactly what was on his mind. He may come out and say, I did it because I saw it on TV. His lawyer will come up with some comic book derangement syndrome defense. The Nancy Graces of the world will pile on to stretch out the story.
We’re better off thinking about this among ourselves before the wider world decides to just condemn us out of fear and prejudice.
I thought this post was just a "Batman would never use a gun, you idiot psycho murderer person" thing than a gun-control advocacy post. I guess it could be both.
July 21 2012 at 11:48 PM Report abuse Permalink +4 rate up rate down ReplyWhile it is a nice to to reference, anyone else's first thought when seeing this was "Man, Miller's comic would have never been made today."?
July 21 2012 at 8:58 PM Report abuse Permalink +1 rate up rate down Replybatman carried a gun
July 21 2012 at 1:43 PM Report abuse Permalink -7 rate up rate down ReplyBatman hasn't carried a gun in seventy years, dude.
July 21 2012 at 4:25 PM Report abuse Permalink +4 rate up rate down ReplyThe last issue of Infinite Justice was seventy years ago? He nearly shot Alexander Luthor Jr. Before that there was the time he sniped Deathstroke, without the intent to kill though.
The image is a nice sentiment that Miller probably has forgotten at this point.
In Final Crisis he used the apotheosis of bullets to shoot Darkseid.
July 23 2012 at 11:07 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate downI doubt Miller feels that way anymore.
July 21 2012 at 11:54 AM Report abuse Permalink +2 rate up rate down ReplyI have to agree with those who find using this panel as a rallying point, in the context of is particular aviation, as distasteful. As someone else said, it's nice that the badass fictional character can make this declaration that "we don't use guns RAWR!" but unfortunately that's life.
For what it's worth (I'm sure minuses are coming), I grew up in a family where all manner of gun use - hunting, target shooting, etc. - was prevalent. Firearm education as an integral part of growing up, so guns don't really bother me one bit.
Neither i nor anyone in my family has never had occasion to use firearms in self-defense, and I pray that None of us ever will. I would like to believe that, were I in the situation in Aurora, I would have the common sense to hide and protect myself, rather than compound the problem with a weapon. That's as important a part of firearm education as anything else: knowing when it's just damn stupid to involve a gun, which is 99.999% of the time.
all these things being said, I believe that ere are certainly some aspects of gun control laws that can be revised to prevent the disturbed from acquiring weapons. Increased background checks would be a hell of a start. A set of stricter definitions of assault weapons, and subsequent bans on their purchase, would be right there as well.
But in the end, this was just a disturbed individual who made the choice to do wrong. Nothing more, nothing less.
it's always been a great panel, but even more moving in light of this morning's events. thank you.
July 20 2012 at 11:53 PM Report abuse Permalink +2 rate up rate down ReplyIt's a decent sentiment but... I don't know, it just seems hollow and insulting in the wake of the shooting.
July 20 2012 at 11:52 PM Report abuse Permalink -2 rate up rate down ReplyTo elaborate, the shooting isn't about Batman... It shouldn't be about that. That shouldn't even occur to anyone.
July 20 2012 at 11:53 PM Report abuse Permalink +2 rate up rate down ReplyMaybe, I kind of feel that way too. But some people could benefit from seeing that.
I mean, Batman, on some level was a hero, or at least some cool dude in a suit, to the people who went to see DKR yesterday. That's why they went to see the movie in the first place. So maybe it is nice to see that person snap a gun in half. It might reduce the fear. Especially seeing as most of the people there were children. Seeing their role model be on their side, smashing something that they had to endure, and perhaps lost their friends to, might be a good thing.
But if a victim of gun violence was to want it removed, if they feel it's in bad taste, then I think this website should uphold their views.
July 21 2012 at 12:30 AM Report abuse Permalink +1 rate up rate downCause really we take all the guns away and destroy them then stop kill each other, They won't find something else to kill people.
