New 'The Amazing Spider-Man' Movie Trailer Digs Into Peter Parker's Past [Video]

Even though I still think the redesigned costume looks like crap, and the Lizard looks like one of the Koopa Troopa from the Super Mario Bros movie, there's no question the action scenes look fantastic, particularly the web-slinging and wall-crawling. And the "small knives" joke really did make me laugh, so the film definitely has got Spidey being a corny and sarcastic wise-ass down pat, although I'm starting to think that the "carjacking" scene isn't the ONLY scene we get of Spidey telling jokes when fighting a bad guy.
That being said, this trailer really, REALLY suggests that Peter Parker's dad was in some way responsible for Peter eventually getting his spider powers a la Ang Lee's Hulk movie, which Badass Digest has apparently confirmed: http://badassdigest.com/2012/05/03/trailer-confirms-the-amazing-spider-man-changes-spideys-origin . If this movie goes with the whole "chosen one/destined to become a hero" cliche with Spider-Man, that's a recipe for disaster, IMO. Also, Peter Parker=X-TREME SKATEBOARDER?! Ugh. (Although, to be fair, I'm guessing this is will be how Peter first tests his newfound powers as opposed to climbing walls and jumping over rooftops.)
A story about an angry teenager that is thrusted into a complex situation of intrigue where he doesnt know who to trust as he tries to learn about his past and his parents. A story where the only one he can relate to and share his feeling and experiences with is the girl next door. A story that is gritty and badass that also has heart. This movie sounds awesome you say? I was talking about Taylor Lautner's masterpiece Abduction.

Boo for his stupid clone, robot, CIA parents.
Sweet jeebus! That trailer looks insanely good! Love that they are making Spidey more witty. Marvel is owing this summer!!!

Looks like they're drawing a fair bit on the Ultimate version of the character - a big plus in my book. I was sceptical when I heard they were doing a Spider-Man reboot, but right now I'm looking forward to this movie.

Hollywood throws a shitty idea at us, everybody is skeptical, then the marketing department does its job and everyone is excited with the trailers and tv spots, the movie hits theaters and it turns out that, yeah, it really was a shitty idea all along. And the cicle continues.

I love it.
This seems to have F' all to do with Spider-Man as I've known him for a couple of decades, if I may posit.

Cos to me Spider-Man's always been a guy whose parents left when he was a kid, who wears a red and blue costume, heckles muggers, shoots webs, fights The Lizard (at least since, you know, 1963)... I dunno. Seems like the Spider-Man from every decade I've checked out.

Um, yeah. That's kind of the idea behind Spider-Man, that he's not a billionaire or the last of an alien race, he's just a guy who got his powers by chance and became a hero because he realized he had to. He's an everyman.
Not a deal breaker for me of course, but I do find myself a little irked by the importance that the trailers are placing on Peter's parents and the conspiracy that they seem to be building. Not a fan of that, Aunt May and Uncle Ben are supposed to be the important ones in Peter's life, his birth parents are really kind of incidental.
On the other hand the Lizard does look kind of cool. So, y'know, benefit of the doubt, even if it does look to be hitting a lot of very familiar beats.
How does what you've described make him any less of an "everyman"? That's like saying Harry Potter became unrelatable as soon as he found out about his parents and destiny, etc. etc.
