March 26 2012 at 11:51 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyWHOOOOO! This is definitely moving the medium forward!
March 26 2012 at 5:59 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI think a lot of us are tired of the full on legit social commentary in some of these "Major Cross Overs". As much as Hero vs. Hero match ups are over done at times its nice to just read a book that is a all out slug fest drawn by some great artists.
March 26 2012 at 6:20 PM Report abuse Permalink +1 rate up rate down ReplyBut it's been done and Done and DONE. It's exhausting. Marvel has always done the 'misunderstanding or distrust leads to heroes fighting' thing, practically since day one, so that's not new. But the 'mega-crossover where heroes fight heroes' is radically overused lately. House of M: 2005. Civil War: 2006. World War Hulk: 2007. Secret Invasion: 2008. Dark Reign: 2009. Shadowland: 2010. Fear Itself: 2011. Schism: 2011.
Every year, another crossover where Marvel's heroes fight each other. Can we give it a rest for just a year?
@WizarDru: I think it's pretty obvious why they have to go Hero v Hero.....because the Villians are all beaten. Given the size, scope, and funding of the Avengers or the X-men it would take nothing less than a country to give them more than 3 issues of trouble.
Let's say Klaw shows up and starts a fight with Captain America, is there any question about who is going to win? Of course not, the hero wins, the villian gets shuffled off to the Raft and then cycles into the Thunderbolts eventually. The only way to avoid giving away the ending the moment the characters are introduced is by piting one unbeatable hero against an equally unbeatable hero. Now the winner is in question.
Unfortunately, they've gone to the well too many times with this story, and we all know that the answer is "No one actually wins" they just punch each other until they realize they are all being dumb/used/mindcontrolled/cloned.
On the other hand, what other choice do the writers have? The villians cant keep up with the heros anymore and the public doesnt fear/hate/not know about the vigilantes anymore.
The X-men are the last vestige of the "fear/hate super powers" aspect and the only reason is some strange genetic reference they made up that humans instinctively know that mutants are there to replace humans as the dominant species so they react negatively toward them. But even that doesnt make a whole lot of sense considering the "50 state initiative" showed us exactly HOW MANY non-mutant powered people are running around the world already.
oops, that went on too long...TL:DR - It's Hero v Hero because the Villians cant offer a threat anymore.
I don't understand how Magneto vs Iron-man would last any longer than it would usually take to crush a can.
March 26 2012 at 5:24 PM Report abuse Permalink +4 rate up rate down ReplyWho is Magneto looking at in that last frame?
March 26 2012 at 4:59 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyIs it wrong that the last drawing of Magneto and Iron Man that I see in my head a word ballon of "FML" right above Iron Man?
I think the Vs. books will be the highlight of the series storyline since they are tackled by legit A list artists and not some fill in D-rank artists that are just a step above stick figure drawings.
Oh and Magneto wins against Iron Man. Not sorry Magneto has that do what it takes to win at all costs type of mentality and same goes for Namor. While Thing is strong to me he doesnt have that "finish it now" mentality.
I'm really looking forward to reading this one issue saga. Emma Frost and Psylocke sipping tea while they make all the Avengers punch each other in the face until they fall down should be a charming read.
March 26 2012 at 3:26 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyS.H.I.E.L.D has standard issue telepath dampening tech.
Although watching Hawkeye acting like a dog at Emma's feet would be pretty fitting. Psylocke would be in the thick of the fighting though, she always seemed like a total adrenaline junkie to me.
So what ridiculous reason are they going to concoct that the X-men and the Avengers are going to run around and square off with each other and start braining each other? All while not really trying to hurt anyone since they are long time allies.
March 26 2012 at 3:22 PM Report abuse Permalink +1 rate up rate down ReplyWhile reading any of the 100s of interviews about this would enlighten you far more than I could, the conflict stems from the return of the Phoenix Force from space, untethered and primed for destruction. Cyclops believes it will be the salvation of mutantkind whereas the Avengers are more in the "We remember Dark Phoenix and that poor planet full of dead broccoli-men." camp. Hilarity ensues!
March 26 2012 at 3:24 PM Report abuse Permalink +2 rate up rate down ReplyYes, that's the setup, but I continue to be puzzled as to how the Avengers "remember" that. Dark Phoenix's story was well-contained within X-Men in the days before constant crossovers. Unless Xavier showed up to the next Illuminati meeting and said, "hey, Tony, let me tell you the heart-crushing story of my favorite student's seduction, corruption, genocide, and suicide," I don't know why the central Avengers should have any particular awareness of what happened. The preview pages for the main book make it sound as though Cap and Iron Man took part in trying to subdue Dark Phoenix or something, which just isn't so.
March 27 2012 at 8:48 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down@ Jacob - The Avengers probably found out around Avengers #263 & Fantastic Four #286, which was the prelude to the original X-Factor series where they found Jean Grey at the bottom of Jamaica Bay in the cocoon and discovered that she had never been Phoenix.
March 27 2012 at 4:32 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate downI'm much more likely to buy this series than the main one. Marvel Events seem a lot like Lucky Charms- it's junk that is fun to have every now and again, but why suffer through the gross oat pieces. This appears to be all beautifully drawn marshmallow shapes that will make for a fun summer read.
