I'm... sorry but that first picture makes this movie look like it had a budget of $20 and a tootsie roll pop.

February 07 2012 at 12:59 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyThanks for the physical proof that some stuff just works better in comic form. Any cop wearing a helmet with an X covering his eyes would get laughed out of the room, even with the sincerest of frowns. Seriously, how can he see his crosshairs so he can shoot hoodlums like a good lil' fascist?
Also, the fact that Dredd's colleague isn't wearing one just makes it look dumber. So can she deflect bullets from her brain with her psychic powers?
While there was an awful lot not to like about the Stallone film (looking at you, Rob Schneider), I actually thought that in most cases they absolutely nailed the look of the comic. Sure, Dredd didn't have big green boots, but he had a big honkin' gold eagle on his shoulder, he Lawmaster was pretty awesome, and the Angel Gang looked pretty amazing.
And can we please stop the "Dredd never takes his helmet off!" nonsense, please? In the comic Dredd takes his helmet off several times (at one point he's shot in the head, and spent several issues helmetless, his head wrapped in bandages). His face is never shown, but it's not like the helmet is nailed on or anything.
I agree. That movies was terrible, and hilarious, but man they worked hard to make it look right.

The times he was seen in the comic, his face was either in complete shadow or his features almost burned away by the Sisters of Death and we all know he takes the helmet off everyday in his quarters at the Grand Hall.

February 06 2012 at 8:13 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down Replydoes Judge Anderson look stoned because she's psychic?
February 06 2012 at 6:34 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyHahahahah. He looks like Darth Helmet.

February 06 2012 at 5:22 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplySomeone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I was a big Dredd fan in the 70's and 80's and I recall them explicitly stating that Mega CIty 1 had no death penalty. Plenty of people got killed while resisting arrest, sure, but the Judges never straight up executed someone the way Anderson seems to be doing there.
That said, Urban certainly seems to have the facial expression down pat.

A countdown of the must-read books of the year.
