Wow, they turn Bilbo into a cliched Chosen One over a decade before Star Wars made that into the only possible fantasy plot.

January 10 2012 at 5:45 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyNow Robot chicken needs to adapt National Lampoon's-
Bored of the Rings.
Some years back, I got to see a test screening for a National Lampoon movie. (Not very good; called 11:14. I don't think it ever even got a theatrical release.)
Afterward there was a Q&A with some of the people trying to market the thing. This was when the LotR movie marketing machine was in full-swing, so I asked one of the guys if anyone had thought of adapting Bored of the Rings as a movie. He responded that there were people back at the office who would be thrilled to hear somebody had asked that question.
Pity nothing ever came of it. And that the only parody movies anyone makes anymore are the schlocky "____ Movie" type that just throws famous scenes from other movies into a blender without making any kind of coherent point or intelligent commentary on them.
