Hey check out (and like) an awesome video interview with the talented cartoonist Peter Bagge at: http://culturecatch.com/vidcast/peter-bagge

November 19 2011 at 10:34 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyThey keep referring to themselves as "the world’s first 100% student-run comics magazine," (see their app page or Facebook page,) but that's clearly untrue. Here's a list of links:
-Static Fish (est. 1985): mysite.pratt.edu/~statfish/
-Carleton Graphic (est. 2009 - all 28 issues so far available for FREE ONLINE): carletongraphic.com/
-Wesleyan University's Anthology (Several issues FREE ONLINE): wesleyan.edu/wsa/uca/index.html
-SCAD's Shoujo Phonebook: blog.scad.edu/shoujo/
-Berkeley Bezerk (Now defunct, but FREE ONLINE): ocf.berkeley.edu/~sap/
-UVA Pulse (Now defunct, but FREE ONLINE): student.virginia.edu/~pulse/index.html
-RISD (might have had faculty help, but FREE on LULU): lulu.com/product/ebook/comic-anthology/17380926?productTrackingContext=product_view/more_by_author/right/1
Their iPad app might well be innovative, but they are more a part of a long tradition than they seem to think they are.
While the publication is clean and professional-looking and the student editors have done a great job at garnering press attention, the presentation of the work seems to betray the idea of student promotion. The contributing artists aren't even listed in order of their work appearing at the front of the book. At least Inkstains, the predecessor to this publication, always listed artist names and contact information on the same page as their comics.
Starting with The Little Match Girl, these are the cartoonists featured in this article in descending order:
Lucretia Hoagland - indifferentsocks.com
Pablo Castro - kidshadecomics.tumblr.com
Mike Luckas - mikeluckas.net
Jose Feliciano
Ian Bertram - ianbertram.tumblr.com
Eric Alexander Arroyo - arroyeah.tumblr.com
Pages 29 and 31 of the book are by Kat Fajardo (kittensforlunch.com) and the first story is by Pierce Hargan (piercehargan.tumblr.com).
It's unfortunate that none of this information is available in the actual publication or even on their minimalist website.
This is truly phenomenal! SVA is a great school, I am very much looking forward to future installments of INK. Good looking out Andy, I am surprised no one else has commented on this.
