That's it, I'm buying myself an armload of these.

IMO, if DC (or any company) was really serious about gaining a new generation of comics readers, they would exempt a significant amount of all-ages and kids' books from the "every book must earn its budget back" policy, discount the hell out of them (25-cent first issues, 95-cent ongoing), and consider them loss-leaders to get kids into comic shops and comics sold at Wal-Mart, etc. Kids can't afford $2.99 per issue, and the comics that we all loved as kids were accessible to us because they were reasonably cheap (from 10-cent books in the 1950s through 75 cents in the 80s).

The fact that "Supergirl's Adventures in the 8th Grade," "Mighty Thor," and lots of others didn't take off was because they were priced wrong. I would bet that "Tiny Titans" is succeeding only because lots of grownup comics fans buy it - I'd be very interested to see if there is any data on how many kids actually buy it (versus their parents).

Again, the fact that comics companies insist that all of their kids' books have to turn a profit is poor corporate strategy, IMO.

I think a better stocked, more inclusive all-ages rack is the right answer.

Everyone that's saying "Oh there's tons of all-ages material out there." please elaborate. I don't read comics much anymore (time, money) but they were a huge part of my progression in reading and I'd like to encourage my daughters to read. But it's not reasonable to wade through the 200 titles in the big racks trying to find something that's appropriate (and by appropriate, I don't just mean naughty words and violence, but on a level that a 8 year old can follow and enjoy). So the all-ages rack is very helpful when I take my girls to the comic shop, but the selection is basically the Disney stuff and maybe the current issue of Tiny Titans and that's about it. I would have loved for the Thor title to have shown up there.

We'll definitely be looking for Reed Gunther next time we go.

Actually there's some good examples of great comics for all ages. Don't forget Thor the Mighty avenger!

This is terrific. Going to check this book out. There are a lot of great all-ages titles out there and it's a shame so many people aren't reading them.

These guys actually called my local shop personally to deliver a similar message, ask if the shop was carrying their book and generally gauge the owner's opinion of the title. Apparently they are beyond pleasant guys. It's not my favorite title, but it's consistently interesting and definitely distinguishes itself with it's "small artists making what they love" vibe. I'm buying this in issues and eventually trade :)

Its not that clever, more kind of stating the obvious.
