McDonald's Rolls Out 'Young Justice' Happy Meal Toys

If you've watched much of Cartoon Network's new Young Justice animated series, you're likely aware of the teen team's covert ops under the pseudo supervision of their world's Justice League. It's was one thing to accept that the big guns are willing to send minors on deadly secret missions, but now I'm worried that playing in the dirt has gotten the kids dirty. According to McDonald's new Young Justice Happy Meal commercial, Kid Flash is stealing kids' apple dippers now. Innocence lost!

The Happy Meal line includes action figurey versions of Robin, Superboy, Kid Flash, Aqualad, Superman, Batman, Black Manta and Captain Cold. Each toy has an action feature, though articulation varies widely between characters.

Fans of the show's female heroes like Artemis and Miss Martian will have to rely on Mattel for toys as McDonald's continues its heavy-handed gender-based Happy Meal marketing. But hey, you can pretend a Littlest Pet Shop dude is just M'gann M'orzz shape-shifting to the max.

McDonald's commercial demonstrating Kid Flash's moral flexibility isn't embeddable, but this guy's YouTube reviews for the toys will help ease the pain:

It's actually against McDonalds policy to ask anyone if they want a boy or girl toy. It's supposed to be asked by specific product following some legal kerfuffle in the 90's.

Doesn't mean it doesn't happen A LOT though.

I'm surprised McDonald's is able to get away with gender-specific toys in this day and age.

So many times I've had to go back up to the counter and say "My daughter wants the boy toy."

They could have at least given us a Miss Martian, dammit...I mean, what's with passing her up for a guy who was ONE-FOURTH of a HIDDEN PUN in the BEGINNING of the first episode?

Yeah, the part of the ep where the heroes battled the four ice-based villains before the beginning credits? That part of the show is called a "cold opening." Insert rimshot here.

You go to McDonalds and ask for a gender-specific toy. I could be incorrect, but the girl toys are ponies (or maybe that was a while back).

It is disappointing and discouraging that the two prominent female characters, Miss Martian and Artemis/Arrowette are not represented here.

The ponies were a few months ago, but do you know how many 18-30 year old dudes watch My Little Pony? You may think I'm joking, but seriously, go on YouTube and read the comments on any My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic video. They are filled with guys going "Why do I love this show so much??"

I think it's stupid that McDonalds automatically goes with gendering the toys. They should ask the kids which toys they want. When I was a 7 year old girl, I never got up the nerve to ask for the Matchbox cars they had from time to time that I really wanted, and I never wanted the "girl" toys but I got them anyway. If it was policy to ask the kids which toy they wanted, then they could better justify having female superheroes in their toy line-up.

Lookout. Sims loves him some My Little Ponies. I'm convinced he's a mod on 4chan.

It is a little insulting though. It's like saying "here, fit into a gender specific role so you can work barefoot and pregnant in a kitchen for a guy who thinks your pleasure is a myth".

In defense of McD's, tho, they are the only one's hiring.
