After a long day of Facebook teasers, 20th Century Fox as finally unleashed its first trailer for Matthew Vaughn's X-Men: First Class. Set to arrive in theaters on June 3, First Class tells the story of how mutant leaders Charles "Professor" Xavier and Erik "Magneto" Lehnsherr became divided in their perspectives on human/mutant relations during the pivotal decade of the 1960s. Check it out after the jump.
There's a lot of new footage to see, including stars
James McAvoy (Charles Xavier), Michael Fassbender (Magneto), Rose Byrne (Moira MacTaggert), January Jones (Emma Frost), Jason Flemyng (Azazel), Nicholas Hoult (Beast), Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique) and more using their perspective mutant powers. Thankfully, the trailer scarcely resembles the wonky promo image that surfaced last month.
Nope, it's Angel Salvadore from Grant Morrison's X-Men run.
My prediction is this film will heavily play on the familial relationships- Cyclops' brother, Nightcrawler's mother and father and (this is pure speculation) Emma Frost's mother and Warren Worthington's mother.
Timeline is completely wrong. Really Emma wasnt even around in the 1960's and had nothing to do with Magneto. She was brought into the fold of the hellfire club in the 1980s issues. Whaaa? This shouldnt even be considered part of the x-men series. What a goof.
Damnit that looks pretty damn awesome. Continuity be damned since last I heard this was supposed to relaunch the series but with this preview it seems its a legit prequel.
Though lets see, White Queen Emma Frost is shown but in Wolverine she's a teenager?
I know she was meant to be Emma in the Wolverine movie, but it doesn't necessarily have to be. I don't think she was referred to as Emma Frost, and while she did use her diamond form, I don't think she used any telepathy. Also she was Silver Fox's (or whoever that was) sister.
The continuity is a bit of a mess though. But really, like the comics, I think you have to ignore any convoluted continuity and just enjoy the story on its own.
@Larry King, as others have pointed out, it's Azazel, but funnily enough Alex Ross had Nightcrawler *become* Belasco in his future-continuity Planet X nonsense.
