WTF of the Week: 'Sarah Palin Vs. The World' Scott Pilgrim Parody

Following up on its Sarah Palin Rogue Warrior comic, Antarctic Press has released solicitation information for a new parodical comic book, Sarah Palin vs. the World. In a kind of double-whammy of exploitation, Sarah Palin Vs. the World is obviously created in the style of Bryan Lee O'Malley's ascendent Scott Pilgrim franchise, and depicts the controversial ex-Governor and ex-Vice Presidential candidate on a mission to attain her "dream job."

What that job is we cannot say, especially given the fact that she's quit one already. Fox News pundit? Reality television star? Mother of a dance show competitor? What obstacles will the plucky Tea Party icon overcome on her way to this nebulous job? Journalists with questions? Harsh Saks Fifth Avenue return policies? Wolves?

A Sarah Palin comic book character is totally redundant. The real thing is so unrealistic to begin with that it's pointless.

Still, she's kinda hot drawn in the "Scott Pilgrim" style.

Andy, can you tell us why Sarah Palin resigned from the office of Governor of Alaska or is recycled snark all you have? Really you come off as one of those useful idiots who still laugh at "W." jokes. That is, all the cool kids are doing it, and you Andy can be cool too if you stop thinking and go along with everyone else.

I respectfully have to completely disagree with you.

If you hadn't included the following paragraph containing some thinly vieled attacks at Palin I might agree with you...

I mean, if you want to bring politics into your site and aggravate those of us who don't want politics in our comics, that's your choice. But don't insult my intelligence by saying that you didn't add your own spin to this story with some jabs at Palin.

The point is that she doesn't have a real job at this point. That isn't a political comment - it's a factual one.

Palin is more a celebrity now than anything else since she's no longer a politician. Making commentary about her that is less than obsequious isn't inherently political.

Nikoli, poking fun at a major media/political figure never used to be considered a blatantly partisan act. Humorists of all stripes made fun of Reagan all through the 80s, and Clinton all through the 90s. If this article had included cracks about Obama, I doubt anyone would have blinked. This is what commentators DO, for Pete's sake. It's not a political position, it's a humorous one.

But somehow, we've gotten a certain breed of modern right-wingers who are such fragile porcelain mice that they view every tiny swipe as evidence of a vast liberal conspiracy. It's this policy, which even you acknowledge, that CA was mocking Glenn Beck for the other day. In a sane political sphere, this would have nothing to do with either Beck's or Palin's political philosophies. The problem is that "staying on message" pretty much IS the sum total of their philosophies, so the kind of jokes that used to be considered harmless--the kind that their supporters could make, even!--are now DEADLY INSULTS that must be met with shrieking hysteria and accusations of bias.

All that shows to me is how deeply hollow and superficial Beck and Palin's politics are. There are plenty of serious conservative political figures who could easily shrug this off, because they stand for something more than their own self-image. When you have a principle, you understand the concept of "jokes". When you yourself are a joke, on the other hand, everything is DEADLY SERIOUS.

This is terrible. It's not that it's a Scott Pilgrim parody, not even that it involves Sarah Palin. What enrages me the most about this whole thing is Ben Dunn. BEN DUNN. And, I guess, by extension, Antarctic Press. I assumed neither existed anymore... My dreams are squashed.

What I want to know is why Comics Alliance has been letting the liberal flag fly so high lately?

Yesterday, you featured a story portraying Glenn Beck in a negative light, and now today Sarah Palin. Now you can argue that Beck brought it upon himself by talking about the book you featured, but what was the point of this other than an excuse to take a few shots at Palin? I doubt she has a thing to do with this comic.

I guess I see enough polarizing political commentary everywhere else. Why can't I come to Comics Alliance for just comics related news?
