"Comic Jumper: The Adventures of Captain Smiley
," a new Xbox Live Arcade game from Twisted Pixel
, comes out on October 6th from the makers of "The Maw" and "'Splosion Man." The game followers a superhero-for-hire and his deeply abusive and biologically implanted sidekick as they battle evil through multiple comic book genres, including the broadly identified "modern" environment. In support of the game, "Penny Arcade
" co-creator Mike "Gabe" Krahulik has created a two-page tie-in comic inspired by the charmingly dubious 1990s artwork of Rob Liefeld
Krahulik's artwork from the comic also adorns a limited edition Xbox which, awesomely, Penny Arcade is giving away to the reader who sends in a photo of themselves in the best Rob Liefeld pose.
From Penny Arcade:
They approached us about doing a comic project for the game and we said yes so long as we could choose the genre. I was really into comic books back in the early 90's and I thought it would be a lot of fun to go back and draw in that style. The result was a project heavily inspired by one Mr. Rob Liefeld. Obviously you can look back on that stuff now and it's pretty silly but I'd be lying if I didn't admit to being heavily inspired by it at the time. Rob may not have had the best grasp of anatomy, storytelling, perspective, or composition but his sh*t was f*cking dynamic and as a young man I ate it up.
Going back and drawing in that style was super fun and I think the result is cool. It was just a two page project so I did a cover and one page from an imaginary early 90's Comic Jumper comic book.
Those interested in winning the one-of-a kind Xbox 360 have until Thursday, September 30 at 12:00 a.m. PST to send in a photo of themselves striking their best Liefeld-style pose. Head over to Penny Arcade for all the details.
