Director Edgar Wright's "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World" is a critical success but so far a mixed success in terms of ticket sales, which is likely to raise a few eyebrows regarding his next reported comic book adaptation "Ant-Man," based on the Marvel Comics superhero scientist with the ability to shrink himself down to the size of an ant. It's not exactly the highest profile project that Wright could pick, with some likely to argue that Ant-Man isn't even a particularly exciting character in the first place, at least not for his own solo film.

But if you're a fan of Wright's work, have some faith - according to the filmmaker himself, his "Ant-Man" adaptation is going to be "much cooler than you think."

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Wright provided fans with an update on the project's status stating, "I've written a script, and once Scott Pilgrim is done I'm going to work on a second draft. It's something I've been passionate about for awhile."

With SP complete, Wright could be moving forward on his second draft -- especially with Joss Whedon's potentially Ant-Man-inclusive "Avengers" film set to begin filming in February 2011.

As far as the heroes' standalone adventures are concerned, Wright's aware of Ant-Man's B-list (or even C-list) status, but is working past cinema's history of depicting shrinking protagonists as less-than-heroic.

"I know there's a big stigma attached to it, mostly because every movie about shrinking has been about people in peril. I think it'd be great to do a shrinking film about a bad-ass secret agent," the "Scott Pilgrim" director told Vanity Fair. "Even something like 'The Incredible Shrinking Man,' which is a fantastic film, is about a guy in trouble. But this is going to be nothing like that. It's essentially a high-tech spy heist film with somebody with a very particular power."
