For better or for worse, extra shoots (in many cases, re-shoots) tend to indicate a studio or a focus group is meddling in a film's creative affairs. In the case of director Edgar Wright's upcoming 3-day shoot with the cast of "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World," however, everything from SP creator Bryan Lee O'Malley's involvement to a stated emphasis on referencing the series' to-be-released final volume point to a project fans can get behind.

Production Weekly broke the news a few days back, which Wright responded to over at Collider, explaining that the shoots aren't intended to fix existing footage (which has tested well with audiences) but rather to bolster the final product.
"We are doing 3 days of pick ups and to be honest – I'm excited about it. It was my suggestion to the studio and the bits and pieces are all things that I want to tweak. Truth is, some of it, is because we have material from Vol 6 that is impossible to resist and so even after a nearly a year of editing – it's going to be fun to put some icing on the cake we are not even redoing one full scene, nor any action, just some bits and bobs and new jokes and beats that I wrote with [Michael] Bacall & O'Malley."
Since "Scott Pilgrim's Finest Hour" won't hit until July and "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World" isn't slated to hit theaters until August 13, the shoots seem like they have plenty of time to simmer into the final cut and hopefully bring fans a cohesive reading/viewing experience. At any rate, Wright's proper reason to generate more O'Malley approved SP content should have fans intrigued well into the summer.
