Honestly, I'm not that bothered by Singer's assessment. Xavier is a big part of the "X-Men" story and Magneto is a defining aspect of Xavier. I see this as more of a Dumbledore-Voldemort dynamic, certainly an important relationship in the film but not necessarily the central one. Maybe I'm wrong - in which case, I would be annoyed - but I'm not getting my torch and pitchfork out just yet.
In addition to "First Class" talk, the article also mentions that Hugh Jackman is trying to woo Singer into directing a project that's most likely "Wolverine 2," while Donner is attempting to get the filmmaker back for "X-Men 4." Sounds like Singer and FOX have made nice nice.

If he wants to focus on Xavier and Magneto, then it shouldn't be called First Class. It should be in the lines of X-Men origins

Please 20th Century Fox don not let Bryan Singer do another X-MEN movie again. He ruin the X-MEN francise by filming the first two films in my opinion. He is a boring film maker people. Singer had a chance to make a great SUPERMAN movie and failed by making a horrible film.

You're certainly entitled to your opinion, but... really? The man directed X-Men 2, which is by *far* the best movie in the series, and in my books, one of the best comic book movies there is.

Well, I have great hesitation from this idea. After Bryan Singer stated during the initial press tour (or comiccon - I forget) of Superman Returns that Clark Kent was the disguise, I kind of facepalmed. If he can't understand such a simple concept, I have to wonder when he makes such dumb statements like "Just doing younger mutants is not enough."

I don't see how saying Clark Kent is a disguise is a misinterpretation. Clark is the unnatural, made-up identity. While there's certainly more substance to it than that, considering how instrumental his parents are in fostering his compassion and more peaceful qualities, I'd say that's a fair and concise way to put it.
Didn't Kill Bill put it the same way?

But that's just it. The disguise isn't Clark Kent. It's Superman. Superman didn't come to earth with his superhero identity all ready set. He came as a baby. He was raised as Clark Kent. As he grew up he adopted the Superman alter ego.
When you see Superman, all the values that he has as a superhero, come from being raised by Martha and Jonathan Kent. Not the otherway around. That's why it's not an unnatural made-up identity. It's who he was before he became the superhero.
Martian Manhunter and Batman fit far better into the "My civilian identity is my mask". MM because he was a grown alien before he arrived (an obviously has to adopt a human disguise) and Batman because he only uses the Bruce Wayne alterego to benefit his crimefighting lifestyle.
To me, it shows a misunderstanding and only a glancing perusal of the character.
Especially since he decided to keep it in the Donner-verse. Sure I liked those movies, but to keep it tied down to 30 year-old movie is kind of unwise. There are hundreds of thousands of stories that you can draw from, and he chose the weakest path. It says "I watched the movies, so I don't need any further research."
And look how it played out. Luthor was a ham-fisted terrible JOKE. Superman has a baby? Nobody puts two and two together when Clark Kent and Superman return at the same time?

BOTH of them are a disguise. Superman is the hero that Clark feels he has a duty to be. "Clark Kent" the clumsy newspaper reporter from Smallville is as far from super as he can make himself be, designed to keep anyone from figuring out where he lives and who his family is. Clark Kent the earnest, self-possessed farmboy with a deep sense of family and duty is the real thing, but very few people who know him in civilian life have seen that person.

How about a live action X-Men TV series with Patrick Stewart. yeah, I could probably go for that. I need a weekly helping of Jean Luc in some form.
