At the recent Heroes Con convention last weekend, writer Brian Michael Bendis ("New Avengers," "Powers") had to leave his booth to attend a panel where he was scheduled to appear. And his absence did no go unnoticed -- see the message left by his "fans" on the left.If you love someone's work so much that you get this upset when you can't see them immediately, you really need to stop and ask yourself whether making veiled physical threats is really the best way to express that "love."
Tip: Real life is different from the internet! Leaving threatening notes for someone is different from leaving an anonymous idiotic comment on a message board, although both are cowardly and mark you as an immense tool.
And people? Are different from comic book characters, although none of them are going to dance for your amusement in precisely the way you want, all the time.

I don't condone the actions done by this person, but was this seriously scribbled on a bathroom wall?

Kanyon -- I took this picture and posted it on my site. It wasn't from a bathroom wall, but was written on Bendis's table while he was gone. The guy who did it made a scene of sorts while I was in the Brubaker line at the next table.

Did anyone report him to the organizers or... security or something? I would think that if such a thing doesn't merit having the police called, then it at least merits removing the person from the con and possibly giving a photo of them to hotel security in whatever place Bendis was staying.
I think it's important to show people that actions have consequences, and that you can't just go throwing stuff like that around casually 'in the real world' It's bad enough that it is done online.

No, I don't believe he was reported, etc. He just made a stink and announced he was leaving a note. I honestly thought he was kidding and/or bluffing until I saw it for myself.
Also, yeah, Bendis was giving out free cookies to people in line while they were waiting. They were quite tasty.

Bendis was giving out COOKIES? Oh god, that only makes me angrier at this guy.

Ugh. This kind of behavior is completely insane. Even more so because the people who left the crazy-ass note were no doubt fans of comics in general and Bendis in specific. They were at HeroesCon so we can assume they would want future HeroesCons to continue to pull in high profile guests. Which I would hate to see become more difficult in the future.
Bendis was completely polite throughout Saturday when I was there, not hesitating to sign large numbers of comics for people (I saw people with 15-20 per person) and answering the most off the wall questions posed to him by fans. He took the time to gave me the rundown on future plans for Powers. Hell, he passed out multiple types of cookies to everyone in line! Free cookies! How can you be pissed at somebody who hands out chocolate chip to people standing in line to see him?
Just don't be a jerk to people. Don't try to snipe a line in front of an empty table then stand around and get pissed. Go talk to David Mack or Matt Fraction, who both had tables adjacent to Bendis and no lines (TRAVESTY). Go browse a vendor. You are there to have fun and talk to people who share your hobbies as well as the creators of that which you enjoy. Lose the aggro.

I did not realize that little note I left had reached such a celebrity status!
What I like are all the false reports about me making a scene and whatnot...purely bogus claims.
I left that note out of sheer jest, hence the "I know your room #" bit at the end.
And I even fessed up to Bendis! and told him I wrote it, he had a good laugh and that was it. And if Bendis! thought it was funny, that's all that matters.
And now you know.....and knowing is half the battle
